FAU
Base-Bald – Owls show support for Cody Meiers
Florida
Atlantic heads into fall with shiny domes.
Coaches, players (including Mike Spano, right)
and support staff had their heads shaved to support Cody Meiers,
the brother of FAU junior pitcher Jake, who was recently
diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer that
is diagnosed less than 300 times each year in the U.S. Cody
attends Palm Beach Central High School.
Geared for Men, a local barber shop, volunteered
its time and traveled to campus to clip the Owls.
Head
coach John McCormack (left, with Jake Meiers) suggested the idea
to the players prior to their return to campus and they were
ready to participate.
“It definitely means a lot to my brother,” Jake
was quoted as saying. “The team is very supportive of me and my
family. It’s awesome. We are just one big family.”
Financial donations for Cody Meiers’ Angel Fund
