In
Charlottesville, Va., Chris Taylor (right) had a two-run single with the
bases loaded and two away in the bottom of the ninth to lift
Virginia over UCI for a Super Regional title and its second trip
to the College World Series. The winning rally for the Cavaliers
(54-10) started with two out and nobody on. David Coleman hit a
1-2 pitch up the middle for a single and was replaced on the
bases by Mitchell Shifflett. Jared King singled off the foot of
pitcher Matt Summers (11-4) as Shifflett advanced to second.
Pinch-hitter Reed Gragnani walked on four pitches to load the
bases. Corey Hunt went to second to pinch-run for King. Taylor
sent an 0-1 pitch into center field to plate Shifflett and Hunt
for the UVa victory. The Anteaters (43-18) had taken a 2-1
advantage in the top of the ninth as Sean Madigan had a leadoff
single, moved to third on an errant throw to second on a bunt
attempt and scored on a double play. UCI broke the scoreless tie
in the top of the fourth as C.J. Crumlich had a leadoff double,
was sacrificed to third and scored on a groundout by Brian
Hernandez. The Cavaliers tied it in the sixth as Kenny Swab
homered for the first time this season. Summers (1.1 IP, 3 H, 2
