Gainesville Super Regional

#2 Florida 8, Mississippi State 6 (UF wins series 2-1)

Florida advances to College World Series

 

In Gainesville, Fla., Preston Tucker (right) belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to put Florida ahead to stay against Mississippi State in the deciding game of the Gainesville Super Regional. The Gators (50-17) head to the College World Series for the second consecutive year. Tucker (2 for 3) had one of the five dingers for Florida. Daniel Pigott (3 for 3) went deep twice, with a two-run tater in the second and a solo shot in the eighth. Mike Zunino (2 for 4) left the yard in the first and Vickash Ramjit homered in the second for the Gators. Tucker is now hitting .400 (30 for 75) in 18 career NCAA tournament games with eight homers and 29 RBI, both school records. The Bulldogs (38-25) trailed 4-0 after three before a three-run jack by Nick Vickerson pulled MSU to within one. The Bulldogs took a 6-4 lead in the seventh as Vickerson tied it with a base hit and Brent Brownlee (3 for 4) added a two-run single. Cody Freeman finished with two hits and two runs for MSU. Tommy Toledo (6-3, 2.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 BB) picked up the victory.

 

Austin Super Regional

#7 Texas 4, Arizona State 2 (UT wins series 2-1)

Texas advances to College World Series

 

In Austin, Texas, Texas used a two-run sixth to rally past Arizona State and win the Austin Super Regional. The Longhorns (49-17) will face North Carolina on Saturday in the first round of the College World Series. Riccio Torrez had a two-run homer in the top of the first for the Sun Devils (43-18), but those would be their only runs of the contest. Mark Payton walked and scored in the bottom of the first as Texas cut the lead in half. Brandon Loy (3 for 4) had a leadoff single and scored on a balk in the fifth to knot the score at 2-2. The Longhorns put together a two-out rally in the sixth. After a strikeout and a groundout, Tant Shepherd (2 for 5) doubled and Payton drove him in with a base hit to make it 3-2. Payton stole second, moved to third on a throwing error and scored on a Loy double. Hoby Milner (7-4, 2.1 IP, 2 K) picked up the win in relief, while Corey Knebel worked around a hit in the ninth to notch his 19th save. Deven Marrero and Joey DeMichele both had two hits for ASU.

 

Columbia Super Regional

#4 South Carolina 8, Connecticut 2 (USC wins series 2-0)

South Carolina advances to College World Series

 

In Columbia, S.C., South Carolina snapped a 2-2 tie with a run in the eighth and put the game away with five in the top of the ninth in defeating Connecticut to reach the College World Series. Tim Martin (2 for 3) and Billy Ferriter (2 for 4) both had RBI singles with two outs in the second as the Huskies (45-20-1) took the early lead. Jake Williams (2 for 3, 2 RBI) had a run-scoring double in the fourth and Robert Beary (2 for 5, 2 RBI) added a RBI single in the sixth to tie it at 2. Christian Walker whacked a leadoff homer in the eighth to give the Gamecocks (50-14) their first lead of the night. Peter Mooney (2 for 4) had a two-run double to highlight the five-run ninth for USC. Adrian Morales had two hits and two runs for the Gamecocks. John Taylor (6-1, 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K) got the victory, while Matt Price (2 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 K) earned his 18th save.

 

Santa Clara Super Regional

California 6, Dallas Baptist 2

California advances to College World Series

 

In Santa Clara, Calif., Chadd Krist went 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBI as California completed the two-game sweep of Dallas Baptist to capture the Santa Clara Super Regional and a spot in the College World Series. Krist had a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to put the Golden Bears (37-21) on top for good. He added a RBI single in the sixth to complete the scoring for Cal. Tony Renda and Derek Campbell both finished with three hits and one RBI, while Campbell and Austin Booker (2 for 4) both scored twice for the Bears. Joel Hutter and Kenny Hatcher both had a double and one RBI for the Patriots (42-20). Erik Johnson (7-4, 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 4 K) was the starter and winner for Cal.

 

Tallahassee Super Regional

#5 Florida State 23, Texas A&M 9 (Series tied 1-1)

 

In Tallahassee, Fla., Jayce Boyd reached base six times and scored five as Florida State thumped Texas A&M to level their Super Regional series at 1-1. The rubber game will be on Monday at 7 p.m. ET. Boyd went 4 for 4 with two walks. He drove in three and was a triple away from the cycle. The Seminoles (46-18) scored five in the top of the first and never trailed. FSU put up four in the sixth and capped the scoring with seven in the eighth. Stuart Tapley went 3 for 4 with two homers and five RBI, while Justin Gonzalez went 2 for 3 with a homer, three runs and six RBI for the Seminoles. Brandon Wood and Gregg Alcazar both drove in two for the Aggies (46-20).
