Notes: The Aggies are
in the NCAA tourney for the fifth time in six years under Rob
Childress. Texas A&M won the Big 12 tournament and has won 11 of
its past 13 games. Senior Andrew Collazo homered in the bottom
of the 10th for the win in the title game. It was the third
overall title and second straight for the Aggies. A&M is 10th in
the nation with an ERA of 2.68. Junior right-hander John Stilson
was expected to be a high pick in the upcoming MLB Draft, but a
shoulder injury will keep him out of postseason action.
Sophomore outfielder Tyler Naquin was picked in the 33rd round
of the 2009 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles. Freshman Krey
Bratsen was selected in the 45th round of the 2010 MLB Draft by
the Oakland Athletics.

Notes: The Wildcats are
making their second straight Regional appearance and seventh in
10 years under Andy Lopez. Arizona is 15-13 in the tourney under
Lopez, with all the games coming on the road. UA was 9-13 on the
road this season. The Wildcats enter the tourney winners of 12
of 15. Arizona is rather young all around, with six starters and
two of its three starting pitchers sophomores or younger. Cole
Frenzel missed half of last year with a broken hamate bone and
came back in a big way - in addition to 19 extra-base hits and a
.360 average, he led the team in walks (30) and HBP (16). He and
Robert Refsnyder were two of the Pac 10's three players who had
more than 40 RBI and runs. Leadoff man Joey Rickard led the team
in hits and has started all but one game in his two years in
Tucson. Sophomore ace Kurt Heyer has topped 100 strikeouts in
both of his seasons - his middle name is Wolfgang. Junior Kyle
Simon has gone 18-7 the past two seasons, topping 100 innings
each time.
