Mountain West issues discipline
for BYU-UNM altercation
The Mountain West Conference handed out penalties
for the altercation between BYU and New Mexico following the
game on Saturday in Provo, Utah.
Some penalties were a result of ejections by the
umpires for fighting, while other penalties came after a review
process.
Penalties include:
BYU
Vance Law, head coach, public reprimand for
remarks critical of a fellow member institution
Ryan Bernal, player, three-game suspension for
post-participation ejection for fighting
Wes Guenther, player, public reprimand for unduly
provocative actions towards a player from another institution
Bret Lopez, player, three-game suspension for
fighting
Brock Luker, player, three-game suspension for
fighting
Blake Torgerson, player, three-game suspension
for post-participation ejection for fighting
New Mexico
Luke Campbell, player, three-game suspension for
fighting
Mitchell Garver, player, public reprimand for
obscene gesture
Quay Grant, player, three-game suspension for
post-participation ejection for fighting
Cory Maltz, player, three-game suspension for
fighting
Jonathan Mata, player, three-game suspension for
fighting
John Michael Twichell, player, three-game
suspension for post-participation ejection for fighting
Each of the above players is subject to tougher
penalties if involved in future altercations.
