Clemson-South Carolina
highlights weekend slate
In
looking at the third weekend of the 2011 season, the Palmetto
State takes center stage as No. 4 South Carolina faces No. 7
Clemson in a three-game series.
The undefeated Gamecocks (7-0) will entertain the
Tigers (6-1) in Columbia on Friday evening. The teams will meet
in Greenville on Saturday afternoon before heading to Clemson on
Sunday. South Carolina has weekend series sweeps of Santa Clara
and Southern Illinois along with a win over Furman this past
Tuesday. The Tigers took two of three from Eastern Michigan
opening weekend and defeated Cincinnati, Charleston Southern and
Michigan State this past weekend before defeating Wofford on
Wednesday.
No. 14 Stanford continues its challenging road
schedule with a visit to No. 10 Texas. The Cardinal (5-3) took
two of three at No. 19 Rice the first weekend before dropping
two of three this past weekend at No. 2 Vanderbilt. The
Longhorns (5-3) won three of four against Maryland opening
weekend before taking two of three this past weekend at Hawaii.
Other interesting series include Miami (Fla.)
playing at top-ranked Florida, Stony Brook traveling to No. 17
North Carolina and Kent State heading to Louisville.
No. 3 Oklahoma will play in the Aztec
Invitational, facing San Diego, Cal and host San Diego State.
The Houston College Classic takes over Minute
Maid Park, with No. 15 Texas A&M, No. 19 Rice, Baylor, Houston,
Kentucky and Utah.
Several conferences begin league play this
weekend. The Atlantic Sun and SWAC both have four conference
series. The CAA kicks off with James Madison at William and
Mary, the Southern Conference commences with Appalachian State
at The Citadel and Texas State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
start the Southland schedule.
