Speciale goes 4 for 4
as Navy outscores Coppin State
Dallas Baptist beats Fresno State in 10,
Seattle outlasts BYU in 16
In
Hanover, Md., Michael Speciale (left) went 4 for 4 with a double
and a home run as Navy outscored Coppin State 12-7 Thursday at
Joe Cannon Stadium. Speciale also walked and scored three for
the Midshipmen (27-18). Mike Guadagnini had three hits, two runs
and two RBI for Navy. Mike Hoosier had a two-run homer in the
first to start the scoring for the Mids. After the Eagles
(11-26) plated three in the bottom of the frame, Navy answered
with three in the top of the second to take the lead for good.
Chris Kashangaki had three hits and two RBI for Coppin State.
Dallas Baptist 13, Fresno State 9 (10)
In Fresno, Calif., Duncan McAlpine belted a
three-run homer in the 10th as Dallas Baptist bounced Fresno
State. The Patriots (24-17) scored two in the eighth and one in
the ninth to take a 9-6 lead, but the Bulldogs (24-19) used two
home runs in the bottom of the ninth to force an extra frame.
Ryan Enos (3 for 5, 3 RBI), Austin Knight (3 for 5, 2 R) and
Tyler Robbins (2 for 6, 2 R, 2 RBI) led the offense for DBU.
Brennan Gowens homered twice for Fresno State, while Jordan
Ribera went deep for the sixth straight game (school record) and
the 21st time for the Bulldogs.
Seattle 3, BYU 2 (16)
In Bellevue, Wash., Mike Malland drove in the
game-winner in the bottom of the 16th as Seattle outlasted BYU
at Bannerwood Park. Nate Roberts walked in the 16th and was
sacrificed to second. Free passes to Josh Kutz and Sean Narby
loaded the bases before Malland’s hit to right ended the
contest. Stephen Wells had a sacrifice fly in the seventh for
the Cougars (18-21) which tied the game at 2. Bryndon Ecklund
and Cullen Hendrickson both had two hits for the Redhawks(6-28).
Austin Hall had three hits for BYU.
