Iglesias homers twice
for Coastal Carolina at UNCW
Georgia Tech thumps Georgia Southern,
Virginia tops George Mason
In
Wilmington, N.C., Jose Iglesias (left) had two home runs and
Chance Gilmore added a grand slam as Coastal Carolina defeated
UNC Wilmington 8-4 Wednesday at Brooks Field for its 14th
straight victory. Iglesias went deep in the first and Gilmoreās
slam in the second pushed the lead to 5-0. Iglesias added a
two-run homer in the seventh. Steve Davis had three hits and two
runs for the Chanticleers (33-5). Cody Stanley had two hits and
two RBI for the Seahawks (22-16).
No. 3 Georgia Tech 18, Georgia Southern 4
In Atlanta, Thomas Nichols had five hits,
including two doubles and two home runs, as Georgia Tech
completed a two-game sweep of Georgia Southern at Russ Chandler
Stadium. Nichols also drove in five for the Yellow Jackets
(33-5). Tony Plagman added four hits and four RBI for Tech,
including a homer that highlighted a four-run first. Nichols had
a three-run homer in an eight-run fifth as the Jackets built a
15-3 lead. Kyle Blackburn drove in a pair for the Eagles
(21-17).
No. 4 Virginia 10, George Mason 3
In Charlottesville, Va., Reed Gragnani had three
hits and three RBI to lead Virginia past George Mason at
Davenport Field. Keith Werman also had three hits for the
Cavaliers (31-9). Jarrett Parker had a two-run triple in a
three-run third as UVa took the lead for good at 4-2. It was the
14th career triple for Parker, a school record. Jeremy Haas had
two hits and one run for the Patriots (23-12).
No. 5 LSU 8, Northwestern State 6
In Baton Rouge, La., Austin Nola had three RBI as
LSU outscored Northwestern State at Alex Box Stadium. Alex
Edward doubled and scored in the eighth for the Tigers (32-6) to
snap a 6-6 tie. Blake Dean added a run-scoring single later in
the frame for an insurance run. Tyler Hanover had three hits for
LSU. Chase Lyles had two hits and three RBI for the Demons
(25-12). Lyles and Justin Martinez both had two-run homers in
the first for Northwestern State.
No. 8 Florida State 12, Charleston Southern 4
In Tallahassee, Fla., Stuart Tapley had three
hits and three RBI to lead Florida State past Charleston
Southern at Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium. Tapley
had a two-run homer in the first to put the Seminoles (29-9)
ahead to stay. Jason Ramsey also had three hits and three RBI
for FSU. Derek Smith had a pinch-hit two-run homer for the
Buccaneers (16-24).
No. 11 Florida 18, USF 8
In Tampa, Fla., Mike Zunino homered twice as
Florida outscored USF in front of a record-crowd of 2,517 at Red
McEwen Field. Zunino went deep in the third and seventh.
Jonathan Pigott had a two-run homer to spark a seven-run first
for the Gators (26-10). Bryson Smith and Nolan Fontana both
added two-run singles in the first for Florida. Todd Brazeal
went 3 for 3 with three RBI for the Bulls (17-20).
No. 14 Louisville 7, Western Kentucky 4
In Louisville, Ky., Andrew Clark and Ryan Wright
both had three hits as Louisville defeated Western Kentucky at
Jim Patterson Stadium. The Cardinals (30-6) scored a pair in the
third as Wright had a RBI single and Phil Wunderlich added a
sacrifice fly. Stewart Ijames had a two-run single to cap a
four-run sixth as Louisville built a 7-1 lead. Kory Petri had a
two-run single in a three-run ninth for the Hilltoppers (28-13).
