Purke, Lockwood pitch
TCU past Texas
In Austin, Texas, Matt Purke and Taylor Lockwood
combined on a three-hitter as TCU topped Texas 3-1 Friday in the
opener of the Austin Super Regional at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Purke (14-0) went 7.2 innings with three hits, one run, one walk
and 11 strikeouts. Lockwood was perfect in 1.1 innings with one
strikeout to record his sixth save. The Horned Frogs (50-11) got
one in the second as Matt Curry singled and scored on a
sacrifice fly by Aaron Schultz. TCU added two huge runs in the
sixth. Taylor Featherson was hit by a pitch and Bryan Holaday
walked to start the inning. After a sacrifice moved both runners
up one base, Featherston scored on a wild pitch. Joe Weik plated
Holaday with a sacrifice fly to give the Frogs a 3-0 lead. Kevin
Keyes knocked a homer in the seventh to put the Longhorns
(49-12) on the board. Cole Green (11-2) was saddled with the
loss, allowing five hits and three runs in 5.2 innings with
three walks and four strikeouts.
