For each regional, we have two coaches make their
picks: Joe Godri, the head coach at Villanova, and Tracy
Woodson, the head coach at Valparaiso.
Atlanta
Joe: At home with over
a 100+ homers on the season, hard to believe Georgia Tech
doesn't win this. I believe Bama left their fight in the ring
last week in the SEC Championships so I will take Elon to take
GTech to the wire... But too much Jacket offense vs. end of
bullpen on Sunday for Phoenix to handle
Tracy: I like Georgia
Tech at home with my surprise team Elon getting to championship
game
Auburn
Joe: A very Vanilla and
Chocolate regional here...I like the Tigers of Auburn to
eventually defeat someone here in the final game....
Tracy: My former
teammate John Pawlowski has done a great job getting Auburn to
where they are but I think experience plays a part. Clemson
beats Southern Miss.
Austin
Joe: Texas at home,
enough said!!!!! I hope Barry Davis’ Broncos win a game or two
Tracy: Texas edges Rice
with pitching.
Charlottesville
Joe: I like the
Johnnies to make a run at this power arms with power offense of
punch.....But at the end of the day UVa gets it done in 3 games
Tracy: Virginia builds
on last year and dominates this region at home.
Columbia
Joe: Seems too easy to
take the Gamecocks here so I will take Peter Hughes (formerly
know as Pete before he moved to Virginia) to win this
puppy!!! Beware of the Bison in game two they can hit...Citadel
beware.
Tracy: South Carolina
was two and out in their conference tourney but not here. Watch
out for The Citadel.
Coral Gables
Joe: I like Aggies in
upset win down on South Beach!!! Why not!! I hope Wittels gets
his hits this weekend for FIU.
Tracy: Texas A&M upsets
Miami at home. They are playing good baseball at the right time.
Fayetteville
Joe: Arkansas is my
Wildcats opener in 2012 so no fear of backlash yet!!! We played
K State early in year. They really catch the ball and their
lefties can cause problems. I am calling for the Wildcats to
pull the upset on Sunday. K State to Tempe next week
Tracy: I am going with
Kansas State in the upset of Arkansas. They have to pitch well
but they do swing the bats.
Fort Worth
Joe: Frogs got this
round figured out...Another Super Regional for Jim Schlossnagle
and Mountain West.
Tracy: Baylor wins the
region with Lamar upsetting TCU in game 1.
Fullerton
Joe: The race for
second place here is quite interesting!!! The Lobos can swing
it and the Gophers have been playing well. The Big 10 struggles
in Rose Bowls in Calif. so let say the same for baseball..Titans
over Lobos final game.
Tracy: Good teams in
this region but I have the home team prevailing.
Gainesville
Joe: I hate when they
put all these Florida teams in one regional, not fair to FAU and
Bethune...Florida just knows they are better and so do the other
guys....Gators in swamp over Beavers.
Tracy: Florida rolls
through this region. Oregon State traveling across the country
hurts them.
Los Angeles
Joe: I love what the
committee did here...Creativity sending the big bad Bayou Tigers
to Hollywood... Well I know it’s been not as easy for the
Tigers in 2010 but no better place for the stars to shine! Paul
Maneri and the Tigers march on....I thought I saw Paul courtside
last night at the Lakers game next to Nicholson!!!
Tracy: UCLA beats LSU.
Once again do not like LSU due to the travel to get there. Has a
big effect.
Louisville
Joe: Danny McDonnell
suspended 3 games...So CBI had selected Roger Williams as the
Big East assistant most ready for a head job. Roger’s audition
starts Friday vs. the Billikens who have a big-time arm going
today!!! I think the Cards offense gets it done but razor close
vs. the Commodores
Tracy: Louisville
outscores Vandy in finals.
Myrtle Beach
Joe: I told my dear
friend Elliot Avent earlier in the week this seems more like a
March Tournament then a regional with how close the teams are. I
say the Pack flexes their ACC muscles and just outscores people
Saturday and Sunday!!!
Tracy: NC State is a
tough 3 seed but it looks like Coastal's time.
Norman
Joe: Tough to call if
you consider UNC & Cal as bubble teams. Got a feeling Tar Heels
advance somehow someway....Too many big-game wins in that
dugout.
Tracy: Carolina would
be my sleeper but they have not played in almost two weeks.
Oklahoma beats Cal.
Norwich
Joe: How about the
UConn Athletic Dept stepping up and making this happen!!! Tip of
the hat to them!! Well you have Indians, Ducks and Dogs battling
up in New England. Maybe I will take the Blue Devils of CCSU?
No, that’s not going to happen and I am sure that's not a game
Jim Penders wants on Saturday!!! I'll take UConn somehow
someway over the Noles....Too many miles for the Ducks to fly to
win this....tired wings.
Tracy: Florida State is
the best team in this region and they beat UConn.
Tempe
Joe: Let's look at what
happened this week: Tim Esmay got a new contract, new car, new
shoes!!!! My former boss and the rest of the Sun Devils roll
this regional!!!! Doesn't matter who finishes second
Tracy: Arizona State
sweeps through this region beating San Diego in final.
