Wittels charged with rape in
Bahamas
FIU
junior shortstop Garrett Wittels and four others were arrested
last week in the Bahamas and charged with raping two 17-year-old
American girls, according to the Miami Herald.
According to the report, the rapes occurred on
Dec. 20 at the Atlantis Resort and Casino in Paradise Island.
A 2011 preseason All-American, Wittels ended the
2010 campaign with a 56-game hit streak, the second longest in
Division I history. He is two away from Robin Ventura's record
of 58 games in 1987. Wittels batted .413 a season ago in 56
games with 100 hits, 21 doubles and 60 RBI. He drew 22 walks and
struck out just 19 times.
The Golden Panthers are scheduled to open the
2011 season on Friday, Feb. 18, at home against Southeastern
Louisiana.
