Le Moyne to reclassify to
Division II
The Le Moyne baseball program will move from
Division I to Division II for the 2011-12 academic year.
Baseball intends to compete along with its 16
other sports in the Northeast-10 Conference.
The Dolphins competed in Division II for 15 years
beginning in 1973 and compiled a record of 340-103-1 (.766). Le
Moyne reached 11 NCAA Tournaments. Under former head coach Dick
Rockwell, 11 Dolphins who competed in Division II were drafted
and four reached the majors: Tom Browning, Jim Deshaies, Jim
Wessinger and Pete Hoy.
Le Moyne will again compete as a Division I
independent for the 2011 season. Its schedule will include Texas
A&M, James Madison, Missouri, Penn State, Louisiana-Lafayette
and Boston College.
The Dolphins are still in search of a head coach.
Former skipper Steve Owens left Le Moyne to become head coach at
Bryant.
