Blair pitches Arizona
State to third straight Pac-10 title
UCLA outscores Cal State Fullerton,
Oklahoma sweeps Texas A&M
In
Tempe, Ariz., Seth Blair allowed two hits in 7.2 scoreless
innings as No. 3 Arizona State completed the three-game sweep of
Oregon with an 8-0 victory in front of 2,578 fans at Winkles
Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. The Sun Devils (19-5,
41-11) clinched the Pac-10 title for the third straight season.
Blair (6-1) did not walk a batter and struck out six. Carlos
Ramirez (right) homered and drove in four. Raoul Torrez had two
RBI. Jason Kipnis had two hits and two runs. Ramirez had a three-run homer to cap a five-run second.
Eddy Rodriguez had a pinch-hit single for the Ducks (4-20,
14-37).
UCLA 13, No. 5 Cal State Fullerton 10
In Los Angeles, Cody Decker went 3 for 4 with two
runs and four RBI as UCLA outscored Cal State Fullerton at
Steele Field at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Gino Aielli, Blair
Dunlap and Dustin Quist both had three hits for the Bruins
(26-26). Casey Haerther had a two-run homer to cap a three-run
first and Decker’s two-run dinger capped a four-run second as
UCLA built a 7-0 lead. Josh Fellhauer went 3 for 4 with four RBI
for the Titans (38-14). Shevis Shima had three hits and two runs
for Fullerton.
No. 14 Oklahoma 6, No. 16 Texas A&M 4
In Norman, Okla., Garrett Richards fanned a
career-high 11 as OU nipped Texas A&M to complete a Big 12 sweep
in front of 1,385 fans at L. Dale Mitchell Park. Jamie Johnson
had an RBI single to spark a three-run second for the Sooners
(17-10, 40-16). Ross Hubbard and Chris Ellison both had two hits
and two runs for OU. Luke Anders and Kyle Colligan both homered
for the Aggies (14-13, 34-21).
No. 1 UC Irvine 8, UC Davis 1
In Irvine, Calif., Sammy Donabedian drove in
three as UCI completed the Big West sweep of UCD at Anteater
Ballpark. The Anteaters (20-1, 40-12) reached 40 wins for the
third straight season. Kyle Mihaylo had a sac fly in the second
to give the Aggies (3-18, 10-40) the early lead before
Donabedian’s two-run single in the bottom of the frame put UCI
on top to stay. Donabedian had a safety squeeze to bring home
Jeff Cusick in the sixth for a 4-1 lead. Eric Deragisch and DJ
Crumlick both knocked in two for the Anteaters. Crosby Slaught
(6-0) allowed five hits and one run in seven innings with five
strikeouts for the win. Joseph Medeiros and Justin Schafer both
had two hits for UCD.
Kansas 17, No. 17 Kansas State 7
In Lawrence, Kan., Nick Faunce had a career-high
five hits to lead Kansas past KSU at Hoglund Ballpark. Buck
Afenir had two hits, including a home run, for the Jayhawks
(15-12, 37-19). Afenir’s two-run homer keyed a seven-run third
for KU. Tony Thompson added a two-run dinger in the fourth for
the Jayhawks. Rob Vaughn had three hits, including a homer, and
three RBI for the Wildcats (14-11-1, 39-15-1).
No. 21 Cal Poly 9, Long Beach State 3
In Long Beach, Calif., Ryan Lee and Luke Yoder
both had three hits as Cal Poly won a series at LBSU for the
first time since 1997. Mason Radeke (6-1) allowed nine hits over
eight innings with one walk and three strikeouts. Yoder scored
three, while Lee had two runs and one RBI for the Mustangs
(13-8, 35-17). Derek Legg, TJ Mittelstaedt and Kirk Singer each
had two hits for the Dirtbags (11-10, 25-26).
