Cruz knocks in game-winner in 10th for Kansas State

Oklahoma tops SUU; Dayton outscores Duquesne; JU wins at FAMU

 

In Manhattan, Kan., Jordan Cruz had an RBI double in the 10th to give No. 16 Kansas State a 9-8 victory over BYU Monday evening in front of 1,197 fans at Tointon Family Stadium. The Wildcats (36-11-1) recorded a school-record 36th win. KSU led 7-2 after seven before the Cougars (24-20) scored four in the eighth to pull to within one. Cruz doubled and scored in the bottom of the frame for an insurance run for the Wildcats before Kasey Ko and Chad Nacapoy homered in the ninth to force the extra frame. It was Ko’s second dinger of the contest. Jason King led off the 10th with a walk and was sacrificed to second before the double by Cruz ended it. Nick Martini had two hits, two runs and two RBI for KSU. Ko (3 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI), Kent Walton (3 for 5, 1 R, 2 RBI) and Michael Bowen (3 for 5, 1 R, 2 RBI) each had three hits for the Cougars.

 

No. 19 Oklahoma 14, Southern Utah 5

In Norman, Okla., OU scored in each of the first five innings, including six in the second and five in the fifth, in outscoring SUU at L. Dale Mitchell Park. Aaron Baker had an RBI double to ignite the six-run second for the Sooners (35-14). Trey Sperring had a three-run homer in the five-run fifth for OU. Baker finished with three hits, two runs and two RBI. Tyler Ogle (3 for 3, 3 R) and Matt Harughty (3 for 4, 2 R, 1 RBI) also had three hits for the Sooners. Matt Sanford went 4 for 4 with two runs and one RBI for the Thunderbirds (22-19).

 

Dayton 22, Duquesne 12

In Pittsburgh, Max Navalinski homered twice and drove in five as Dayton dumped Duquesne to secure a berth in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Navalinski finished with four hits and four runs. Zach Jacob (4 for 6, 1 HR, 4 R) also knocked in five for the Flyers (17-4, 32-14). Scott Dunwoody also had four hits, including two doubles, and three runs for Dayton. Heck (3 for 6, 1 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Bernardo (2 for 3, 2 R, 3 RBI) led the offense for the Dukes (5-15, 10-37).

 

Jacksonville 11, Florida A&M 3

In Fla., Jeremy Gillan went 3 for 4 with a double, two homers and four RBI as Jacksonville topped FAMU at Moore-Kittles Field. Garrett Dunlap (1-0) struck out six in seven innings for the Dolphins (30-15). Jamaal Hawkins homered and drove in four for JU. Jared Jeffries had two hits, including a double, and one RBI for the Rattlers (20-25).

 

Illinois-Chicago 16, Purdue North Central 3

In Chicago, Jake Carr homered and knocked in three as UIC won for the fifth time in the past six contests with a victory over Purdue North Central at Les Miller Field. Brandon Harwell had two doubles and three RBI for the Flames (21-20). UIC put the game away with an eight-run seventh. John Selman and Nate Hall both had one hit and one RBI for PUNC (30-20).

 

Pepperdine 8, UC Santa Barbara 6

In Santa Barbara, Calif., Pepperdine won the completion of the suspended game from April 7 at UCSB’s Ceasar Uyesaka Stadium. The Waves (25-19) used a seven-run fourth to answer a five-run third for the Gauchos (23-19). Nate Simon had a two-run single followed by a three-run homer by Colin Rooney in the fourth for Pepperdine. Cook had a solo homer and Marty Mullins added a grand slam in the third for UCSB.
