Ackley's Homer Helps UNC Get
Return Trip to Omaha
In
Chapel Hill, N.C., All-American Dustin Ackley (right) had an
opposite-field three-run homer to cap a five-run sixth as North
Carolina defeated East Carolina 9-3 to capture the Chapel Hill
Super Regional and advance to the College World Series for the
fourth straight year.
Garrett Gore went 4 for 5 with four runs for the Tar Heels
(47-16). He homered to center in the ninth to complete the
scoring.
Kyle Seager had a two-run single after a pair of
walks loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the third to
start the scoring for the Tar Heels. Seth Baldwin also knocked
in a pair in the game for UNC.
Adam Warren (9-2) held ECU scoreless until the
eighth. Warren did not allow a runner to second until the
seventh. He surrendered eight hits in 7.1 innings with three
runs, one walk and eight strikeouts. Brian Moran got the final
five outs to secure the win.
Brandon Henderson had a two-run single in the
three-run eighth for the Pirates (46-20). Trent Whitehead had
two hits and a run for ECU.
