Notes: Florida is hosting a regional for the eighth tine. This is the 25th NCAA Tournament appearance for the Gators. Florida is looking for its first national title. UF was runner-up in 2005, falling to Texas in the championship series. The Gators are 27-8 this season at McKethan Stadium. Jonathan Pigott hit two home runs in Florida’s SEC tournament win over Ole Miss. It matched his season total.

Notes: Miami heads to the postseason for a record 37th consecutive season. Under head coach Jim Morris, the Hurricanes have won 14 of 15 regional appearances, and have reached the College World Series in 11 of 15 years. Miami has won four national championships (1982, 1985, 1999, 2001). Morris is a three-time National Coach of the Year. Junior closer Kyle Bellamy had been named one of 30 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award. The Hurricanes opened Alex Rodriguez Park this season, thanks in part to a $3.9 million contribution by New York Yankee third baseman Alex Rodriguez. Miami was 23-11 in home contests and averaged 2,170 fans. The Hurricanes are 32-0 when leading after six innings.

 

3. Jacksonville Dolphins

Jacksonville, Florida

Notes: The Dolphins are making their 13th appearance in the Regionals and their third in the past four years. Jacksonville is hoping for a better showing than the last time, when they were shut out by North Carolina and Western Carolina – the only shutouts the team suffered all season. Chris Kaminsky’s cousin Mandy Ott pitched for the Ole Miss softball team. Catcher Jeremy Gillan drove in 60 runs for the second straight year. Chuck Opachich and Carson Andrew were high school teammates.

 

4. Bethune-Cookman Wildcats
