Notes: North Carolina is making its 24th NCAA postseason appearance and its record eighth straight. The Tar Heels will host a regional for the fourth year in a row. Head coach Mike Fox and company have made it to Omaha in each of the past three years, and have won at least 40 games for eight consecutive seasons. UNC is the only team to earn a top-four seed each of the past three years. The Tar Heels have won 207 games over the past four seasons, the top mark in the nation. Fox earned his 1,000th career victory on March 4 against Gardner-Webb. He is one of 10 active Division I coaches with 1,000 wins. UNC leads the nation with 586 strikeouts. The Tar Heels have two of the top players in the nation in first baseman Dustin Ackley and starting pitcher Alex White. Both are expected to be among the first players taken in the upcoming MLB draft. Ackley is the 2009 ACC Player of the Year. Senior right-hander Adam Warren is one of 10 finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes student-athletes for Classroom, Character, Community and Competition. UNC moved into its new facility this spring, Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium, with a seating capacity of 4,100. The Tar Heels averaged 1,735 fans in 38 home games with a record of 31-7. Matt Harvey’s father, John, played baseball and football at Connecticut and played in the 1972 College World Series. Left-hander Brian Moran is the nephew of former Tar Heel B.J. Surhoff. Freshman Jacob Stallings is the son of Vanderbilt head basketball coach Kevin Stallings.

Notes: Coastal Carolina won a Big South-record 21 games in winning the regular-season title for the fourth time in five years. The Chanticleers’ 46 wins are among the nation’s best and they have nine 40-win seasons in the past 11 years (an average of 43 per year). Nick McCully – who has won six games and saved eight others – Cody Wheeler and Anthony Meo have combined to win 24 games, and all have an ERA under 3.11. Opponents hit .208 off Wheeler and .212 off McCully. David Anderson has 49 career homers, most in school history.  48 career homers, tied for first in school history. His 79 RBI are the fourth most in Big South history. Rico Noel stole seven bases in the Big South Tourney and is 46 of 49 on the year. Chance Gilmore is the son of coach Gary Gilmore and originally attended Virginia, where he redshirted due to an injury. Preseason All-American Scott Woodward missed a month with a broken finger but still hit .288 with 30 SB. Adam Rice stepped into the second spot of the order and flourished, closing the season with a .452 average and 36 RBI in the final 27 games of the regular season. The Chants are 38-1 when leading after seven innings and field at a .969 clip.

Notes: This is the fourth NCAA Tournament appearance for Kansas and first since 2006. The Jayhawks have a 6-5 record in the NCAA tourney. In its first appearance in 1993, Kansas lost its first game and then won four straight to capture the Mideast Regional in Knoxville, Tenn., and advance to the College World Series. The Jayhawks went 0-2 in Omaha. Senior catcher Buck Afenir is a semifinalist for the Johnny Bench Award. Third baseman Tony Thompson was first team all-Big 12, while Afenir, outfielder Brian Heere and pitcher T.J. Walz were second team. Shaeffer Hall tossed a no-hitter against Air Force in the season opener on Feb. 20. The Jayhawks were 25-3 at home this season at Hoglund Ballpark. Outfielder Jason Brunansky is the son of former major leaguer Ton Burnansky, who played 14 seasons with the Angels, Twins, Cardinals, Red Sox and Brewers. Robby Price is the son of head coach Ritch Price.

Notes: Dartmouth is making its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance. The Big Green reached the College World Series in 1970 after winning District 1. Dartmouth defeated Iowa State in the first round in Omaha before falling to Florida State and USC. Dartmouth’s last title was 22 years ago in the Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League. First baseman Mike Pagliarulo is the son of the former major leaguer by the same name. The father of catcher Kyle Evans is an assistant coach at Missouri State (Paul Evans). Former major leaguers from Dartmouth include Brad Ausmus, Jim Beattie, Pete Broberg, Mark Johnson and Mike Remlinger. The Big Green had three players selected in the 2008 MLB draft and have had 11 players selected in the past nine years.
