Notes: LSU won a
record-eighth SEC Tournament title and second straight. The
Tigers returned to Omaha a season ago for the first time since
2004. It was the 14th College World Series appearance for LSU,
all since 1986. The Tigers will host a regional for the 19th
time. LSU posted a 28-9 record this season in new Alex Box
Stadium. The Tigers have two pitchers with more than 100
strikeouts: Anthony Ranaudo with 124 and Louis Coleman with 111.

Notes: John Anderson
became the 39th head coach in Division I history to reach 1,000
career victories as he led Minnesota to a 7-6 victory against
Penn State on May 14. He is the 20th head coach to have won
1,000 games with the same team. The Golden Gophers put seven
players on the All-Big Ten team, the highest total for the
school since 2004. Derek McCallum is the first Golden Gopher to
finish the season batting over .400 since 2001 and is one of
five players in school history to collect 70 or more RBI in a
season.

Notes: Southern is back
in the field after winning the SWAC title and boasts a win over
San Diego State. Roger Cador has guided the Jaguars to 59 wins
the past two seasons and is approaching 750 wins in an
incredible 25-year run at his alma mater. Among the players who
have played at Southern over the years are Hall of Famer Lou
Brock, Rickie Weeks and Coco Crisp. Jesse Olivar slugs at a .615
clip and has 33 walks and an OBA of .471. He and James Armstrong
lead the team with 21 extra-base hits. Jarret Maloy has tossed
three complete games, and Chase Richard and Daniel Garcia have
thrown two. Opponents hit only .228 against Garcia, who started
five games and walked only two batters in 36 innings.
