coaching staff
USA Baseball has announced the remaining two
members of the 2010 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team
coaching staff, joining manager Bill Kinneberg (right) of Utah
and pitching coach Dave Serrano of Cal State Fullerton.
Ed
Blankmeyer (left) of St. John’s will make his first appearance
with Team USA, while Nino Giarratano of San Francisco coaches
for the second time for USA Baseball.
Blankmeyer has a record of 470-285-3 in 14
seasons as head coach of the Red Storm. St. John’s has captured
three Big East regular-season titles and one tournament
championship. Blankmeyer has guided St. John’s to five NCAA
Regionals. He has been named Big East Coach of the Year four
times and ABCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year four times.
Giarratano
(right) is in his 12th season as head coach of the Dons. He
guided USF to a third-place finish in the West Coast Conference
this past spring, two games out of first. The Dons are 163-123
(.570) over the past five seasons, including the first
back-to-back 30-plus win seasons in school history in 2005-06.
Giarratano was an assistant coach on Rob Walton’s Collegiate
National Team staff in 2008.
The Collegiate Team was 19-5 in 2009, with a
title at the inaugural World Baseball Challenge in Canada. The
2010 schedule includes the V FISU World University Championships
in Japan.
