Finley of ULM to be Inducted
into LA Angels Hall of Fame
Former
ULM hurler Chuck Finley (right) will be inducted tonight into
the Los Angeles Angels Hall of Fame prior to the team’s game
against the Oakland A’s.
Finley, a five-time All-Star, pitched the first
14 of his 18 major league seasons with the Angels. He holds the
team career records with 2,675 innings pitched and 379 games
started. He posted 165 victories for the Angels and is second to
Nolan Ryan on the team’s career strikeouts list with 2,151.
Finley and Brian Downing are the first Angels
since 1995 to be placed in the team’s Hall of Fame. They join
Ryan, Don Baylor, Rod Carew, Jimmie Reese, Bobby Grich and Jim
Fregosi.
Finley played at ULM from 1984-85. He led the
Warhawks in strikeouts in 1985. Finley and Ben Sheets had their
ULM jerseys retired in 2007.
