Fullerton boasts one of the most decorated baseball histories at
the Division I level. Former head coach and current Texas coach
Augie Garrido is the winningest coach in the NCAA and the Titans
have won four national championships (1979, 1984, 1995, 2004).
In 45 years at the Division I level, the Titans have reached the
CWS 29 times, and are currently riding an active streak of 17
consecutive postseason appearances, the fourth-longest in the
nation. The Titans have groomed 10 first-round draft picks 45
current and former major leaguers. Head coach Dave Serrano took
over the team this season after former Titan George Horton left
to start up the baseball program at Oregon. Serrano shocked the
college baseball world and Orange County as well when he left
rival UC Irvine after taking them to the school’s first-ever
College World Series last summer.

leads the all-time series with Cal State Fullerton 51-38. The
Cardinal swept a three-game series with the Titans earlier this
season at Stanford. This is the seventh Super Regional for the
Cardinal. After losing in the opening round of the Stanford
Regional to UC Davis, the Cardinal won four straight to win the
regional title. Head coach Mark Marquess is 10th on
the all-time victory list for Division I with 1,322 and sixth
among active coaches. Stanford has been to the College World
Series 15 times. Jason Castro is a finalist for the Johnny Bench
award. Closer Drew Storen was named a Freshman All-American by
Collegiate Baseball. Austin Yount is the nephew of Major
League Hall-of-Famer Robin Yount. His father, Larry, pitched in
the minors for the Houston Astros and made it to the major
leagues, but was injured during warm-ups prior to an inning. He
did not get into a major league game, but is credited for one
appearance. Cory Bannister’s father, Floyd, was the No. 1
overall pick in the 1976 draft by the Astros and pitched in the
majors for 15 years. His brother, Brian, is a pitcher with the
Kansas City Royals and his brother, Brett, is in the Seattle
Mariners’ farm system.
