College World Series to remain
in Omaha
The NCAA and the city of Omaha have reached an
agreement that will keep the College World Series in Omaha
through at least 2030.
The College World Series has been in Omaha since
1950. The city plans to construct a new downtown ballpark to
replace 60-year-old Rosenblatt Stadium. The city was looking for
an extension of the current contract, which runs through 2010.
The new stadium will have 24,000 seats. The $140
million stadium is expected to open in 2011. It could also be
the home of the Omaha Royals, the AAA affiliate of the Kansas
City Royals, and Creighton University.
The contract is expected to be signed prior to
the June 14 start of the 2008 College World Series.
