Beckham Signs with White Sox

All-American Georgia shortstop Gordon Beckham has signed with the Chicago White Sox.

Beckham was Chicago’s first-round pick and the eighth overall pick in the 2008 draft. He hit .411 and tied for the national lead with 28 home runs. Beckham was second in the country with 97 runs and 226 total bases.

Beckham was a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Award.

Georgia was the national runner-up this past season. The Bulldogs fell to Fresno State in the Championship Series of the College World Series.

All draft picks must sign by Friday, August 15. There are still 10 first-round selections unsigned.
