Getting Ready for Another Big
Weekend
It has been an interesting week here in Waco.
We were rained out Tuesday night in a home game against McNeese State without
a drop of rain falling or a cloud in the sky. This was quite a disappointment to
much of our team as we did not get our much anticipated pre-game meal. The game
was postponed because the forecast was for three inches of rain all afternoon,
and McNeese State was looking at a six-hour drive. It turned out to be the best
weather of the year.
This past weekend, we had a great series with a quality Oral Roberts team.
After a rather disappointing Friday night loss, we responded with two excellent
wins Saturday and Sunday to win the series. Trey Taylor and Cory VanAllen each
gave us excellent starts. Congratulations to VanAllen on Big 12
pitcher-of-the-week honors.
We
leave Thursday for Tempe, Ariz., where we will play a series with Arizona State.
This will give us another opportunity to face quality pitching and play three
competitive games. After opening the season ranked in the Top 25, the Sun Devils
have dropped their last six games and surely will come out looking for a win. We
need to build on our last two games against Oral Roberts and continue our
consistent pitching and timely hitting.
This is my first time to play Arizona State, and I look forward to facing
such a nationally respected program.
