In Omaha, Nebr., Davis Martin tossed seven scoreless innings as No. 5 Texas Tech topped top-seeded Florida 3-2 Tuesday afternoon in an elimination game in the 2016 College World Series.
Martin (10-1) allowed three hits and three walks while striking out three.
The Red Raiders (47-19) got on the board in the fourth. Cory Raley (2 for 4) had a one-out bunt single and stole second. With two away, Eric Gutierrez (2 for 4) belted a homer to left to give TTU a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the ninth, TTU added an insurance run. Tyler Neslony reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a pair of errors to push the advantage to 3-0.
Peter Alonso (2 for 3) smacked a two-run in the bottom of the ninth to pull the Gators (52-16) within one at 3-2. Jonathan India had a two-out base hit to left and tried to stretch it into a double, but was thrown out at second to end the contest.
Alex Faedo (13-3, 7.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R) struck out nine for UF, the program’s highest total in a CWS game.
