Jimmy Crooks cranked a three-run homer to cap a seven-run second, and Jackson Nicklaus launched a grand slam in the fourth as OU outscored TAMU. John Spikerman had a leadoff walk and scored on a groundout in the top of the first as the Sooners (43-22) took an early 1-0 lead. Robertson had a two-run single and Crooks had the three-run dinger in the second as OU went up 8-0.
“I thought we set the table really early,” OU head coach Skip Johnson said, “took the momentum early in the game.”
The Aggies (42-19) plated three in the bottom of the second on a homer by Thompson before the slam by Nicklaus two innings later put the Sooners up 12-3.
“I saw the pitch out of the hand, a nice fastball, and just tried to put a good swing on it,” Nicklaus said.
Tanner Treadway had three hits, two runs and one RBI for OU. Jake Bennett (10-3) worked six innings with five hits, four runs and three strikeouts to secure the win.
