College Station Super Regional: No. 5 Texas A&M 4, No. 12 Louisville 3 (UL eliminated)
No. 5 Texas A&M advances to College World Series
Ryan Targac had a homer in the sixth to tie the game and Dylan Rock delivered a sacrifice fly in the seventh as TAMU completed the sweep of UL to earn the first spot in the 2022 College World Series. Dalton Rushing had a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to put the Cardinals (42-21-1) on the board. Rock walked with the bases loaded and Austin Bost had a sacrifice fly in the third as the Aggies (42-18) tied the game at 2-2. Payton had an RBI single in the fifth as UL took a 3-2 lead. Targac had a leadoff homer in the sixth to level the score at 3-3. Rock had a sacrifice fly an inning later to put the Aggies up 4-3. The Cardinals stranded a runner in each of the final three innings, giving them 10 for the game. Knapczyk went 4 for 5 with a double and a run for UL.
Stanford Super Regional: UConn 13, No. 2 Stanford 12
Matt Donlan and Korey Morton had two-run homers in an eight-run second as UConn withstood eight home runs by Stanford to win their series-opening contest. Ben Huber had an RBI double in the first before the eight-run outburst in the second gave the Huskies (50-14) a 9-0 lead. Drew Bowser and Brock Jones had two-run dingers in the bottom of the second as the Cardinal (45-16) pulled within five at 9-4. T.C. Simmons had an RBI triple and scored on a base hit by Donlan in the fourth to give UConn an 11-4 edge. David Smith added a run-scoring double and came home on a sacrifice fly by Casey Dana as the Huskies went up 13-4. Jones and Brett Barrera went deep in the seventh as Stanford narrowed the gap to 13-6. In the bottom of the ninth, Jones and Braden Montgomery had two-run homers as the Cardinal pulled within three. With two away, Bowser and Tommy Troy went deep with two away to make it a one-run game. But a strikeout ended the contest. Jones went deep three times, while Bowser bashed two long balls for Stanford.
Corvallis Super Regional: No. 14 Auburn 7, No. 3 Oregon State 5
Sonny DiChiara had a two-run homer in the first and four relivers held OSU to one run over the final eight innings as Auburn won Game 1 of their series. DiChiara’s two-run dinger in the first gave the Tigers (41-19) an early lead before a three-run homer by Garret Forrester highlighted a four-run first for the Beavers (47-17). Nate LaRue had a run-scoring single and Mike Bello (2 for 4) added an RBI groundout in the second as Auburn tied it at 4-4. A sacrifice fly in the fourth by Brody Moore (3 for 4) put the Tigers on top by one. Bobby Peirce went deep in the fifth and Auburn added an unearned run in the eighth for a 7-4 advantage. Jacob Melton had an RBI double in the ninth for OSU. John Armstrong got the final out in the first and two in the second before Tommy Sheehan (2-0) worked 3.1 innings with two hits, one walk and three strikeouts. Carson Skipper fanned five in three scoreless frames before Blake Burkhalter gave up one run in the ninth but struck out two to record his 14th save.
Blacksburg Super Regional: No. 4 Virginia Tech 14, Oklahoma 8
Nick Biddison went 3 for 5 with two solo homers, including one to start the game, and Virginia Tech hit five homers on the day to force a third game with Oklahoma to decide the Blacksburg Super Regional. The Hokies (45-13) used the long ball to take a 5-0 lead, but the Sooners (41-22) punched back with three in the bottom of the third. Leading 5-4, Tech put the game away with four in the fifth and three in the sixth. Gavin Cross (2 for 5), Cade Hunter (3 for 4, 3 R) and Tanner Schobel (1 for 5) all homered for the Hokies, with Cross and Hunter joined by Carson Jones with two RBI apiece. Jonah Hurney turned in four innings of one-run relief with seven strikeouts to pick up the win. Blake Robertson and Jimmy Crooks each drove in two, and Tanner Treadway and Brett Squires added solo homers for Oklahoma.
Greenville Super Regional: No. 9 Texas 9, No. 8 East Carolina 8
Dylan Campbell’s solo homer put Texas up 8-7 in the bottom of the eighth, and his bases-loaded, two-out single to the wall in right field in the bottom of the ninth handed the Longhorns the win to force a third game Sunday with East Carolina. The Pirates (45-20) got homers and three RBI apiece from Bryson Worrell (3 for 5, 2 R) and Jacob Jenkins-Cowart (2 for 4, 2 R) in building a 7-2 lead. But Texas (46-19) scored twice in the seventh and four times in the eighth to take an 8-7 lead. Douglas Hodo III (3 for 5, 2 RBI) and Skyler Messinger (HR, 3 RBI) each homered for the Longhorns. With two outs in the top of the ninth, Jacob Starling ripped a long homer down the line in left to tie the game at 8.
Knoxville Super Regional: No. 1 Tennessee 12, Notre Dame 4
Luc Lipcius homered twice and knocked in four in an eight-run fifth as UT evened its series with ND. Lipcius had a leadoff homer in the fifth to give the Vols (57-8) a 2-0 lead. His three-run bomb capped the eight-run explosion as UT took a 9-0 lead. Jordan Beck had a double, a homer and three RBI for the Vols. Chase Dollander (10-0) worked 7.0 innings with five hits, two runs and five strikeouts to record the win. Jack Zyska was a triple short of the cycle, going 4 for 4 with two RBI for the Irish (39-15).
Chapel Hill Super Regional: Arkansas 4, No. 10 North Carolina 1
Connor Noland hurled 6.2 scoreless innings as Arkansas took Game 1 of its Super Regional at UNC. Noland (4-2) allowed six hits with one walk and six strikeouts. The Razorbacks started the scoring in the fifth. Peyton Stovall had a leadoff homer to break the scoreless deadlock. Brady Slavens added a run-scoring single and Cayden Wallace had a sacrifice fly later in the frame as the visitors took a 3-0 lead. Slavens delivered an RBI single in the seventh to give Arkansas a 4-0 advantage. Vande Honeycutt (2 for 3) had a two-out homer in the eighth for the Tar Heels.
Hattiesburg Super Regional: Ole Miss 10, No. 11 Southern Miss 0
Dylan DeLucia and Jack Dougherty combined on a four-hit shutout as Ole Miss blanked Southern Miss to begin their series. DeLucia (6-2) worked 5.2 innings with four hits, two walks and nine strikeouts in earning the victory. Dougherty pitched 3.1 hitless innings with one punchout. Tim Elko (2 for 5, 3 RBI) and Kevin Graham had consecutive two-run doubles in a seven-run sixth for the Rebels (36-22). Slake Wilks had two hits, including a double, for the Golden Eagles (47-18).
