No. 8 Stanford advances to College World Series

Drew Bowser had a fly ball to center that the outfielders could not see that dropped for a single to score Alberto Rios from second base with the winning run as Stanford survived against UT to reach the College World Series for the third straight year and 19th time overall. Bowser (2 for 4, 2 R, 3 RBI) belted a two-run homer to highlight a three-run second as the Cardinal (44-18) took the early lead. Jack O’Dowd (2 for 4) had a bases-clearing double in the fourth as the Longhorns (42-22) tied it at 3-3. Braden Montgomery (2 for 4) delivered a two-run single to cap a three-run fourth as Stanford reclaimed the lead at 6-3. Dylan Campbell (2 for 5) had an RBI single to complete a three-run eighth as UT leveled the score at 6-6. Rios had a two-out double in the bottom of the ninth and Malcolm Moore walked before Bowser’s fly ball ended the game. Joey Dixon (7-0) tossed a hitless ninth with two strikeouts to earn the victory.

Tennessee advances to College World Series

Following a four-hour weather delay, Drew Beam tossed six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts as UT blanked USM to advance to Omaha for the second time in three years and the sixth time overall. Beam (9-4) scattered seven hits and walked one. Chase Burns fanned four over the final 2.2 innings to record his second save. Griffin Merritt had an RBI single in the second to start the scoring for the Vols (43-20). Zane Denton belted a three-run homer in the fifth to extend the lead to 4-0. Maui Ahuna (1 for 2, 2 BB, 2 R) went deep in the seventh to complete the scoring. Nick Monistere went 1 for 2 with a walk for the Golden Eagles (46-20).
