In Dayton, Ohio, Jesse Scholtens tossed the first perfect game in program history as Wright State edged Dayton on Friday afternoon. Scholtens (2-0) struck out 12, including the final batter looking. The Raiders (8-6) scored the game’s only run in the sixth. JD Orr earned a leadoff walk and was sacrificed to second. Following a wild pitch, Ryan Fucci drove in Orr with a groundout to short. “It was surreal,” head coach Greg Lovelady said, “the whole time: I can’t believe that this might happen. It was a really, really weird feeling.”

No. 14 Florida State 8, No. 17 Georgia Tech 2

In Tallahassee, Fla., Darren Miller belted a three-run homer in the third, one of four long balls for the home team, as Florida State powered past Georgia Tech in the ACC series lid-lifter. John Sansone (3 for 5), Cal Raleigh (3 for 3, 2 R) and Ben DeLuzio each went deep for the Seminoles (1-0, 11-3). Mike Compton (3-1, 7 IP, 6 H, 2 R, BB, 6 K) earned the victory. Virginia Tech 14, No. 6 Miami 3

In Blacksburg, Va., Nick Anderson ripped a first-inning grand slam, and Tom Stoffel matched Anderson with five RBI as Virginia Tech routed Miami to open ACC play. The Hokies (1-0, 10-5) scored five in the first and added a run in the second and three more in the third to win going away. Leadoff man Saige Jenco went 3 for 4 with four runs and an RBI for Tech. Thomas Woodrey (2-2) was touched for eight earned runs in 2.2 innings for the Hurricanes (0-1, 11-3).

Ball State 7, No. 7 LSU 1

In Baton Rouge, La., Kevin Marnon and Zach Plesac combined to hold LSU to one run as Ball State won the series opener. Marnon (2-2) allowed seven hits and a run in 5.2 innings with three walks and four strikeouts. Plesac gave up just one hit over the final 3.1 innings with five punchouts. Jarett Rindfleisch went 2 for 4 with two homers, while Alex Call (3 for 4, 2 R, 3 RBI) and Sean Kennedy also went deep for the Cardinals (8-7). Antoine Duplantis and Beau Jordan both had two hits with a walk for the Tigers (10-3).

Mississippi State 10, No. 9 Oregon 4

In Starkville, Miss., Cody Brown belted a grand slam as Mississippi State knocked off Oregon. The Bulldogs (10-3-1) blew open a one-run game with five in the eighth. Brent Rooker (3 for 4, 2 R, 2 RBI) also went deep for MSU. Dakota Hudson (2-1, 5.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 5 BB) fanned nine, while Vance Tatum tossed two hitless innings with two punchouts in recording his first save. A.J. Balta homered and knocked in two for the Ducks (8-3).

Boston College 7, No. 13 NC State 0

In Raleigh, N.C., Mike King allowed six hits in seven scoreless innings, and Joe Cronin had two hits, two walks and three RBI as Boston College shut out NC State in the ACC opener for both teams. The Eagles (1-0, 13-2) scored all their runs in the middle innings, with two coming in the fourth and sixth innings and three scoring in the fifth. Brock Deatherage had two hits for the Wolfpack (0-1, 12-3).

No. 1 Florida 16, Harvard 5

In Gainesville, Fla., Deacon Liput went 4 for 6 with four RBI as Florida handled Harvard. The Gators (15-1) scored 11 runs over the first three innings. Mike Rivera went 2 for 4 with a double, a homer, two runs and three RBI for UF. Logan Shore (4-0, 6 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 6 K) earned the victory. John Fallon went 3 for 3 with a double, a homer, three runs and two RBI for the Crimson (2-3).

No. 2 Vanderbilt 7, Xavier 0

In Nashville, Tenn., Jordan Sheffield carried a no-hitter into the eighth and struck out a career-best 12 as Vanderbilt blanked Xavier. Sheffield (3-1) allowed one hit and walked three. Ethan Paul drove in two, while Penn Murfee had two hits and two runs for the Commodores (13-1). Blaine Griffiths, Roger Danison and Andre Jernigan each had a hit for the Musketeers (3-10).

No. 3 Texas A&M 3, Fresno State 2

In College Station, Texas, Jace Vines and Ryan Hendrix combined for 10 strikeouts as Texas A&M nipped Fresno State. Vine (3-0) allowed eight hits and two runs in 6.2 innings with one walk and six strikeouts. Hendrix surrendered two hits and two walks over the final 2.1 innings with four punchouts to record his third save. Michael Barash (3 for 3, 2 RBI) and Hunter Melton both went deep for the Aggies (13-1). Aaron Arruda went 3 for 4 with a home run for the Bulldogs (11-3).

No. 4 Oregon State 8, San Francisco 5

In Corvallis, Ore., Drew Rasmussen struck out a career-high 12 over six innings as Oregon State stopped San Francisco in its home opener for its 10th straight win. Rasmussen (3-0) allowed two hits, two walks and a run. Max Engelbrekt fanned two of the three batters he faced in the ninth for his sixth save. Logan Ice went 3 for 3 and was a single short of the cycle, while Kyle Nobach was 3 for 4 with a homer, two runs and two RBI for the Beavers (11-1). Nico Giarratano (1 for 3, R) and Dan James (1 for 2) both drove in two for the Dons (2-13).

No. 5 Louisville 4-8, Notre Dame 3-2

In Louisville, Ky., Nick Solak hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning as Louisville edged Notre Dame in the first game of their ACC doubleheader. The Cardinals (2-0, 12-2) took the nightcap behind 13 strikeouts and two RBI from Brendan McKay. Solak finished 3 for 6 and continued an 11-game hitting streak – he’s now reached base in 25 straight games for the Cardinals. Notre Dame (0-2, 6-7) took a 2-1 lead in the 10th on Lane Richards’ RBI single, but Will Smith walked with the bases loaded to tie the game for Louisville. Zak Kutsulis (4 for 5, 2 RBI) hit for the cycle for Notre Dame, doubling in a run for a 3-2 run in the 11th inning. McKay’s 13 strikeouts in the second game were a career high – he allowed two unearned runs in 6.2 innings in improving to 4-0.

No. 7 North Carolina 14, Pittsburgh 2

In Chapel Hill, N.C., Brian Miller was a triple short of the cycle and drove in four as North Carolina took the ACC series opener from Pittsburgh. Miller went 3 for 5 with a double, a homer and two runs. Cody Roberts drove in three and scored twice, while Eli Sutherland was 3 for 4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI for the Tar Heels (1-0 ACC, 11-1). Zac Gallen (2-0, 4 H, R, BB) fanned eight in 8.0 innings in earning the victory. Charles LeBlanc and P.J. DeMeo both knocked in a run for the Panthers (0-1, 6-5).

No. 9 TCU 8, USC 3

In Fort Worth, Texas, TCU snapped a 3-3 tie with one in the seventh and four in the eighth in the series opener against USC. Michael Landestoy went 2 for 3 with three RBI, while Elliott Barzilli (2 for 4, 2 R) homered for the Horned Frogs (11-2). Frankie Rios had three hits and two runs for the Trojans (6-6).

No. 11 California 9, Texas Tech 2

In Berkeley, Calif., Daulton Jefferies fanned nine in seven innings as Cal topped Texas Tech. Jefferies (4-0) allowed six hits and two runs (one earned) with one walk. Mitchell Kranson went 4 for 5 with three runs for the Golden Bears (10-3). Stephen Smith homered for the Red Raiders (8-6).

No. 12 Ole Miss 15, Grambling State 2

In Oxford, Miss., head coach Mike Bianco recorded his 700th career victory and 600th win at Ole Miss in the series opener against Grambling State. Errol Robinson (1 for 4, 2 R, 3 RBI) and Cameron Dishon both went deep, while Colby Bortles had two doubles and drove in three for the Rebels (13-1). Brady Bramlett (4-0) allowed four hits with 11 strikeouts in five scoreless innings. Tray Bell had two hits for the Tigers (4-7).

No. 15 Virginia 6, Duke 0

In Durham, N.C., Connor Jones pitched eight scoreless innings as Virginia won the ACC series opener at Duke. Jones (3-0) did not walk a batter and struck out three. Matt Thaiss had a three-run homer in the fifth to extend a 1-0 lead for the Cavaliers (1-0, 10-4). Jimmy Herron and Jack Labosky both had two hits for the Blue Devils (0-1, 8-6).

No. 16 Arkansas 3, Western Illinois 2

In Fayetteville, Ark., Cullen Gassaway delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th as Arkansas edged Western Illinois. Tucker Pennell had a two-run homer in the fifth for the Razorbacks (11-3) before the Leathernecks (2-9) scored single runs in the seventh and ninth to force the extra frame. Zach Jackson (1-1, 3 IP, 2 H, UE, 3 BB, 5 K) earned the win in relief of Dominic Taccolini (7 IP, 2 H, R, 2 BB, 9 K). Mark Garton went 1 for 4 with a run for WIU (2-9).

Texas 7, No. 18 UCLA 5

In Los Angeles, Tres Barrera had three hits and two RBI as Texas won at UCLA. The Longhorns (7-7) used a four-run fourth to snap a 2-2 tie. Kort Peterson (2 for 4, 2 H) homered for the Bruins (6-7).

No. 19 South Carolina 9, Charleston Southern 0

In Columbia, S.C., Clarke Schmidt fanned nine in 7.1 innings as South Carolina blanked Charleston Southern. Schmidt (4-0) allowed four hits and did not walk a batter. Dom Thompson-Williams went 2 for 4 with a homer and four RBI for the Gamecocks (13-2). Mike Sconzo went 2 for 2 with a walk for the Bucs (8-6).

No. 20 UL Lafayette 4, Troy 2

In Troy, Ala., Ishmael Edwards had an RBI double in the top of the ninth to snap a 2-2 tie and scored an insurance run on a single by Nick Thurman as UL Lafayette edged Troy to kick off their Sun Belt series. Brian Mills and Bran Antchak both had two hits and a run for the Ragin’ Cajuns (1-0, 9-5). Jevin Huval (1-1, 1 IP, H, K) picked up the win, while Dylan Moore fanned three in the ninth for his third save. Peyton Fuller had a two-run homer in the sixth for the Trojans (0-1, 9-7).
