In Chapel Hill, N.C., Brandon Gold tossed 7.1 strong innings, and Matthew Gorst closed the final 1.2 innings for his fifth save as Georgia Tech edged North Carolina to end a nine-game ACC road losing streak. Gold (3-1) allowed six hits and two runs with five strikeouts for the Yellow Jackets (4-3, 17-4). Connor Justus had an infield single for an RBI, and Kel Johnson added another infield RBI single that resulted in a second run on a throwing error in the fifth inning. Johnson finished with two hits and boasts a 16-game hitting streak. Logan Warmoth went 3 for 4 with a run for the Tar Heels (5-2, 18-3).

No. 17 California 6, No. 3 Oregon State 2

In Berkeley, Calif., Daulton Jefferies tossed a complete-game four-hitter as Cal won the Pac-12 series opener. Jefferies (6-0) did not walk a batter and struck out four. The Golden Bears (2-2, 12-6) trailed 1-0 before plating five in the fourth. Nick Halamandaris went 2 for 4 with a run and two RBI, while Brett Cumberland scored twice for Cal. KJ Harrison and Logan Ice went deep for the Beavers (3-1, 16-3).

No. 14 South Carolina 5, No. 8 Ole Miss 1

In Oxford, Miss., Gene Cone was a triple short of the cycle, going 3 for 4 with two runs as South Carolina won at Ole Miss to kick off their SEC series. Jonah Bride went 2 for 3 with a double, two walks, one run and one RBI for the Gamecocks (4-0, 21-2). Clarke Schmidt (6-0, 6.2 IP, 9 H, R, 8 K) earned the victory, while Josh Reagan (1.2 IP, 2 H, K) notched his seventh save. Henri Lartigue went 4 for 4 for the Rebels (2-2, 20-3).

No. 2 Texas A&M 6, No. 11 LSU 1

In College Station, Texas, Boomer White had three hits and two RBI as Texas A&M took the SEC series opener from LSU. The Aggies (3-1, 20-2) expanded a two-run lead with two in the seventh and two more in the eighth. J.B. Moss went 3 for 5 with a double, two runs and one RBI for A&M. Jace Vines (4-0, 6 IP, 5 H, R, 2 BB, 4 K) earned the victory, while Brigham Hill tossed three scoreless innings with two hits for his first save. Jake Fraley went 2 for 4 with a triple and one run for the Tigers (1-3, 15-6).

Texas 4, No. 6 TCU 3

In Austin, Texas, Patrick Mathis went 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBI as Texas nipped TCU to begin their Big 12 series. The Longhorns (1-0, 10-12) erased a 3-2 deficit with two in the fifth. Tyler Rand had two hits and one RBI, while Kacy Clemens went 2 for 4 with a double and a run for UT. Evan Skoug had a three-run homer in the fourth for the Horned Frogs (3-1, 17-4).

No. 13 Mississippi State 9, Georgia 2

In Starkville, Miss., Dakota Hudson allowed one unearned run in seven innings as MSU took the SEC opener with Georgia. Hudson (3-1) scattered eight hits with one walk and five strikeouts. The home Bulldogs (3-1, 16-6-1) snapped a 1-1 deadlock with seven in the fourth. Reid Humphreys went 3 for 5 with a double and two homers for MSU. Michael Curry and Patrick Sullivan both had two hits for Georgia (1-3, 14-9).

Notre Dame 16, Virginia Tech 4

In Blacksburg, Va., Jake Shepski went 5 for 6 with a double, a triple, three homers, four runs and nine RBI as Notre Dame powered past Virginia Tech in the opener of their ACC series. Shepski, who had one career home run entering the game, belted a solo shot in the first, ripped a three-run homer in the second, had a two-run triple in the third, launched a three-run homer in the fourth and added a double in the eighth. He was a single short of the cycle. Shepski is believed to have set program records with nine RBI and 17 total bases for the Fighting Irish (2-5, 10-10). Ryan Smoyer (8 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7K) earned the victory. Nick Anderson drove in two, while Joe Freiday went deep for the Hokies (1-6, 10-13).
