Michigan
named Team of the Week
After posting a perfect 4-0 week, including three Big Ten wins at
Minnesota, Michigan has been named CollegeBaseballInsider.com Team of the Week.
The Wolverines started the week with a 15-8 win over Ball State.
UM then recorded victories of 4-2, 11-5 and 12-8 against the Golden Gophers to
clinch its third consecutive Big Ten regular-season title. The fourth game of
the series was lost to the weather. Michigan earned the right to host the Big
Ten Tournament next week.
Honorable mention goes to Florida Gulf Coast, which enjoyed a 5-0
week with wins over Florida International and Florida Atlantic and a three-game
sweep of East Tennessee State to clinch the regular-season title in the Atlantic
Sun. Columbia won two of three at Dartmouth to claim the Ivy League title.
Bucknell won two of three at top-seeded Army to advance to the Patriot League
Championship series. Rice went 5-0 with wins over Texas State and Oklahoma State
and a three-game sweep of cross-town rival Houston to claim its third straight
Conference USA title. Arkansas swept a three-game SEC series from South
Carolina. UNC Wilmington defeated NC State and swept a three-game set at
second-place James Madison to claim the CAA regular-season crown. Nebraska won
two of three from Big 12 rival Texas A&M. LSU won a three-game SEC series from
Mississippi State to extend its win streak to 12 and claim the top spot in the
Western Division standings. New Orleans topped Tulane and won three Sun Belt
games at UALR to stretch its win streak to 13. Tulane rebounded from the loss to
UNO to win at Southern and sweep a three-game C-USA set at East Carolina. Utah
had a 5-0 week with a victory over Southern Utah and a four-game Mountain West
sweep at Air Force. Penn State swept a four-game Big Ten series with Iowa to
climb to fourth place. Binghamton won three of four at Hartford to move into a
first-place tie in America East. Charlotte took three from Richmond to remain in
first in the Atlantic 10. Canisius swept a three-game MAAC series at Fairfield
to stay one game ahead of Manhattan, which defeated Hofstra and swept a
three-game conference set from Saint Peter’s. San Francisco defeated
nationally-ranked Stanford, lost to Saint Mary’s and took two of three WCC games
from nationally-ranked San Diego.
