Southern Miss named
Team of the Week
After
registering a 3-1 record against a pair of nationally-ranked opponents, Southern
Miss has been named CollegeBaseballInsider.com Team of the Week.
The Golden Eagles started their week with a 3-2 win in 10 innings
against Ole Miss on Tuesday at Trustmark Park in Jackson, Miss. Southern Miss
took two of three Conference USA contests at Rice, winning 1-0 on Friday behind
Barry Bowden (pictured) and 8-7 on Sunday.
Honorable mention goes to Santa Clara, which defeated
nationally-ranked California and won two of three against nationally-ranked San
Diego. Cal rebounded from its loss to Santa Clara to sweep a three-game set from
Top 10 Long Beach State. UNC Wilmington extended its win streak to 20 with a win
at Coastal Carolina and a three-game CAA sweep at VCU. Canisius went 6-0 with a
win at Penn State, two at Delaware State and a three-game MAAC sweep of Iona to
raise its record to 19-2. Sacramento State enjoyed a 5-0 week with a win over
nationally-ranked Stanford and a four-game WAC sweep of Hawaii. East Carolina
defeated Campbell and took two of three at UCF. Dartmouth went 5-0 with a
victory over Quinnipiac and a pair of Ivy wins at Princeton and two at Cornell.
Vanderbilt went 4-0, with wins over Belmont and Middle Tennessee and two SEC
victories over Arkansas. Wichita State went 6-0 with two wins over Binghamton
and four against North Dakota State. Ball State rebounded from a loss at Notre
Dame to defeat Anderson and sweep a three-game MAC series at preseason favorite
Kent State. Cincinnati went 4-1 with midweek wins over Toledo and Ohio and took
two of three Big East games at Notre Dame. Bucknell went 6-1 with two wins over
Clarion, a win over Susquehanna and three of four Patriot victories at Army.
