North Carolina climbs to No. 1 in CBI
Composite Poll
Miami (Fla.) drops to No. 2 after six weeks at No. 1; Arizona
State sits at No. 3
By taking two of three at No. 1 Miami
(Fla.), North Carolina sits atop all four national polls and is the new
unanimous No. 1
in the CollegeBaseballInsider.com Composite Poll.
The Tar Heels (45-10) defeated Winthrop 4-1 on Tuesday before
heading South for its ACC series with the Hurricanes. UNC dropped the opener
12-2 on Thursday before posting a 10-6 victory on Friday and a 12-11 decision on
Saturday. UNC was actually outscored 30-28 for the week, but won three of four.
Miami topped North Florida on Tuesday
before its series with UNC. The Hurricanes fell to No. 2 after holding the top
spot for six consecutive weeks.
Arizona State (44-9) went 4-0, including
a three-game Pac-10 sweep of Washington, to take sole possession of the third
spot. Florida State (46-9) had a 3-1 week to drop to No. 4. Rice (42-11) swept
a three-game Conference USA series at Tulane to stay at No. 5.
Cal State Fullerton (35-17) took a
three-game non-conference set from San Diego State and climbed four places to
No. 7. LSU (39-16-1) had a 4-0 week, including a win over New Orleans and a
three-game SEC sweep at Auburn, to stretch its win streak to 16 and rise eight
spots to No. 12.
