Colby Thorndyke had a bases-clearing double to highlight a six-run first as No. 13 Coastal Carolina cruised past Louisville 11-3 on Wednesday afternoon for their 26th consecutive victory to secure a spot in the College World Series Championship Series.
Walker Mitchell had a two-run single in the first to start the scoring for the Chanticleers (56-11). Thorndyke knocked in three with a double and scored on a base hit by Ty Dooley for an early 6-0 advantage.
Dean Mihos added a two-run triple in the fifth as CCU made it 8-0.
Tague Davis had an RBI double and scored in a three-run sixth for the Cardinals (43-24).
Blake Barthol had a run-scoring single and scored when Thorndyke was plunked with the bases loaded in the sixth to extend the lead to 10-3.
Thorndyke singled home Barthol in the eighth to conclude the scoring, making the final 11-3.
Thorndyke went 3 for 4 with two runs and five RBI.
Riley Eikhoff (7-2) earned the win, going 5.1 innings with seven hits, three runs, one walk and four strikeouts.
Garret Pike and Kamau Neighbors both had two hits and one RBI for UL.
