Texas No. 1, LSU up to No. 2 in CBI Composite Poll (4/28)

Texas remains on top, while LSU bumped up to second in the latest CBI Composite Poll after a tumultuous week on the diamonds around the country.

The Longhorns had a 4-0 week, with a win at Texas State and three one-run victories over Texas A&M. UT is first in all five national polls.

LSU went 2-2, falling to Northwestern State before taking two of three from No. 5 Tennessee. The Tigers are second in four polls and fourth in the other.

Clemson had a 1-3 week and dropped one place to third. The Tigers topped No. 9 Georgia before getting swept in a three-game series at NC State. Clemson is second, third, fourth, sixth and eighth in the polls.

North Carolina went 2-1 and rose four spots to fourth. The Tar Heels won a three-game series at Pitt. UNC is third in two polls, fourth in one, fifth in one and eighth in the other.

Georgia had a 2-2 week and also climbed four places to ninth. After losing at No. 2 Clemson, the Bulldogs took two of three from No. 14 Oklahoma. UGA is third in one poll, fourth in one, seventh in one and ninth in the other two.

There were significant differences in the national polls this week. Oregon State was as high as third and as low as 16th. West Virginia was as high as fourth and as low as 16th. Florida State was as high as fifth and as low as 19th. Tennessee and Arkansas were as high as fifth and as low at 12th.

Ole Miss, Louisville and NC State entered the CBI Composite Poll, while Oklahoma, Arizona and Troy dropped out.

There are nine teams from the SEC in this week’s CBI Composite Poll, including six of the top eight. There are five from the ACC, two from the Big 10, and single entries from the Big 12, Big West, Independent and Sun Belt.
