Jimmy Crooks cranked a three-run homer in the bottom of the first and David Sandlin fanned 12 in 7.0 innings as OU eliminated TAMU to advance to the CWS Championship Series.
Sandlin (9-4) allowed five hits, one walk and one run.
“I thought Sandlin set the tone early, executing one pitch at a time,” OU head coach Skip Johnson said. “And Jimmy getting a big hit, separating the game. When you get to separate in the game early, your breaking ball gets better, your fastball command gets better, getting a lead early. Then it’s just about establishing a strike zone and throwing strike one and going pitch to pitch. Really proud of our club.”
After Sandlin struck out the side in the top of the first, the Sooners (45-22) scored in the bottom of the frame. Peyton Graham drew a one-out walk and went to second on a single by Blake Robertson. With two away, Crooks homered to right to give OU a 3-0 advantage.
The Sooners added an insurance run in the third Graham had a one-out double and scored on an error to make it 4-0.
In the fifth, John Spikerman had a leadoff single and scored on a base hit by Tanner Tredaway as the lead grew to 5-0.
Dylan Rock homered to lead off the top of the sixth for the lone run for the Aggies (44-20).
“Congratulations to Oklahoma,” TAMU head coach Jim Schlossnagle said. “They’ve proven over the last six, seven days they’re the best team in our bracket. At least playing the best baseball. Very, very consistent starting pitching, defense, timely hits.”
