No. 3 Oregon State 5, Mississippi State 2 (MSU eliminated)
Freshman Kevin Abel allowed three hits and one run in seven strong innings as OSU ousted MSU to reach the championship series of the CWS. The Beavers will battle No. 5 Arkansas for the national championship in a best-of-three series beginning on Monday evening. Abel walked three and fanned five. Jake Mulholland (2 IP, H, R, 2 BB, 2 K) worked out of trouble in the ninth to secure the victory. OSU started the scoring in the top of the third. Cadyn Grenier had a two-out double and moved to third on a base hit by Trevor Larnach. Adley Rutschman (2 for 3) singled to center to knock in Grenier with the game’s first run. A base hit by Michael Gretler (2 for 4) brought home Larnach to make it 2-0. Tyler Malone belted a three-run homer to extend the lead to 5-0. MSU answered in the bottom of the frame. Luke Alexander drew a leadoff walk and scored on a base hit by Rowdey Jordan (2 for 4) to make it 5-1. The Bulldogs brought the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth. With two away, Elijah MacNamee and Justin Foscue walked. Luke Alexander singled to drive in MacNamee and make it 5-2. Pinch-hitter Tanner Poole was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jordan Westburg grounded to short, forcing Poole out at second to end the contest.
