Jim Toman has been hired as the head coach at Middle Tennessee. For nine seasons, Toman compiled a record of 329-205-1 as head coach at Liberty. Toman spent 11 seasons as Ray Tanner’s top assistant at South Carolina and seven seasons at NC State with Tanner. This past season, Toman was assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator at the College of Charleston. He helped the Cougars post a record of 36-19.
The Blue Raiders were 27-27-1 overall in 2018, including 14-15-1 at home. MTSU went 12-17-1 in Conference USA this past season.
Toman replaces Jim McGuire, whose contract was not renewed. McGuire was an assistant at MT from 1992-2012. He had a record of 162-175-1 overall and 74-104-1 in conference contests over the past six seasons.
