In Orlando, Fla., Kyle Marsh had three hits and drove in six as UCF thumped Florida Wednesday evening. March had an RBI double to cap a two-run first, a two-run homer in the third and a bases-clearing double in the sixth. Kam Gellinger also had three hits and knocked in a pair for the Knights (8-1). Joseph Sheridan (2-0, 5.0 IP, 4 H, R, BB, 4 K) earned the victory. Keenan Bell and Nick Horvath both doubled and scored for the Gators (7-2).
St. John’s 5, No. 8 North Carolina 4
In Chapel Hill, N.C., Jesse Berardi hit a two-run homer in the seventh to knot the score at 4-4 and Michael Donadio’s solo shot in the eighth put St. John’s ahead for good in edging UNC. The Red Storm (8-0) is off to its best start in 36 years. Donadio had two hits, while Berardi scored twice for St. John’s. Joe LaSorsa (1-0) ended the game with three perfect innings and four strikeouts to earn the victory. Josh Ladowski had two hits and one RBI for the Tar Heels (8-1).
Charlotte 6, No. 14 NC State 5
In Raleigh, N.C., Zach Smith had a two-run double in the top of the seventh to erase a 5-4 deficit as Charlotte edged NC State. Smith went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBI, while Zach Jarrett (2 for 4) had a two-run homer in the sixth for the 49ers (7-2). J.D. Prochaska (1-0, 2.1 IP, H, 3 K) earned the win in relief, while Matt Brooks fanned two over the final 1.1 innings to record his first save. Brad Debo went 2 for 4 with two RBI for the Wolfpack (5-3).
No. 6 Louisville 20, Morehead State 2
In Louisville, Ky., Drew Ellis knocked in five and Colby Fitch drove in four as Louisville manhandled Morehead State. The Cardinals (8-0) scored multiple runs in five different innings, including five in the fifth and seven in the seventh. Ellis had a grand slam in the seventh, while Fitch went 3 for 4 with four runs. Jake Sparger (2-0, 1.2 IP, 2 H, K) earned the win in relief. Braxton Morris went 2 for 3 with a double and a run for the Eagles (5-4).
No. 13 Vanderbilt 4, Southeastern Louisiana 2
In Nashville, Tenn., four pitchers combined on a two-hitter as Vanderbilt edged SLU. Derrick Mount and Ryan Byers hit solo homers for the Lions (4-4) in the top of the second before the Commodores (6-3) plated single runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings. Julian Infante and JJ Bleday both went deep for Vandy. Paxton Stover (1-0, 2.0 IP, 2 BB, 2 K) earned the win, while Matt McGarry followed with three hitless innings with three walks and two strikeouts. Reed Hayes recorded the final three outs with one strikeout for his third save.
No. 16 Coastal Carolina 4, UNCW 1
In Wilmington, N.C., Kevin Woodall, Jr. had a two-run double in a three-run eighth as Coastal Carolina rallied past UNCW. Seth Lancaster went 2 for 3 with one run and one RBI for the Chanticleers (5-5). Bobby Holmes (1-1, 3.2 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 4 K) recorded the victory, while Austin Kitchen got the final two outs for his first save. Robbie Thorburn went 2 for 5 with a run for the Seahawks (3-4).
