In Baton Rouge, La., Jared Poche pitched seven shutout innings and LSU used a seven-run third to down Vanderbilt to kick off their SEC series. Poche (4-3) allowed four hits and three walks while tying his career-high with eight strikeouts. Greg Deichmann and Beau Jordan both had three hits and two RBI for the Tigers (5-5, 20-9). Jeren Kendall went 2 for 4 with a double, one run and one RBI for the Commodores (6-4, 24-6).
BYU 12, San Diego 2
In Provo, Utah, Tanner Chauncey went 3 for 5 with a double, two runs and three RBI as BYU took the WCC series opener with San Diego. The Cougars (8-2, 24-4) expanded a 4-2 lead with eight in the seventh. Bronson Larsen had two hits, two runs and three RBI for BYU. Michael Rucker (7-0, 6.2 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 6 K) picked up the win. Roman Garcia had two hits, two runs and one RBI for the Toreros (4-6, 16-16).
Stanford 4, UCLA 1
In Los Angeles, Chris Castellanos allowed one run in seven innings as Stanford won the Pac-12 series opener at UCLA. Castellanos (4-1) surrendered five hits and did not walk a batter. Colton Hock fanned two in a hitless ninth for his third save. Alex Dunlap had a two-run homer in the second to give the Cardinals (5-2, 16-8) the lead for good. Luke Persico doubled and scored for the Bruins (4-6, 12-15).
Auburn 11, Missouri 9
In Columbia, Mo., Ben Braymer fanned 11 in five scoreless innings of relief as Auburn won the SEC series opener at Missouri. Braymer (3-2) allowed two hits and walked one. Mizzou (2-8, 18-14) scored seven in the fourth to take a 9-5 lead. Auburn (3-7, 15-15) scored three in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game before taking the lead on a Niko Buentello homer in the eighth. Melvin Gray went 4 for 5 with a triple, three runs and two RBI, while Jordan Ebert had three hits and two runs for the visiting Tigers. Trey Harris had two hits, including a triple and three RBI for the home Tigers.
