Team of the Week

UCF is CBI Team of the Week

 

UCF, with a midweek win over Bethune-Cookman and single wins over Arkansas, Maryland and South Alabama, has been named the CollegeBaseballInsider.com National Team of the Week for games played Feb. 16-22.

 

The Knights coasted past the Wildcats 10-2 before traveling to South Alabama’s tournament, where they topped the Razorbacks 9-5, Terrapins 7-6 and host Jaguars 7-5. At 8-0, UCF begins a stretch of five straight games against SEC opponents – it hosts Ole Miss this weekend then plays a home-and-home series with Florida next week.

 

Regional Teams of the Week

 

Northeast: Bucknell met VCU in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and swept three games from the Rams, one of the favorites in the Atlantic 10. The Bison won by scores of 5-1, 6-4 and 3-2.

 

Southeast: Arkansas State traveled to Georgia for a neutral-site series with No. 11 Louisville and captured the first two games 8-2 and 4-1 before falling 14-8 in the third game.

 

Central: Texas went 5-0 on the week, outscoring its opponents 45-4. The Longhorns picked up a 14-2 win over UT San Antonio before taking four straight over Minnesota. After winning the first game 13-2, Texas posted three straight shutouts (5-0, 5-0 and 8-0).

 

West: Nevada continued its hot start by knocking off eighth-ranked Texas Tech 8-4 in a midweek game. The Wolf Pack then claimed a series sweep over Fresno State, one week after the Bulldogs swept a weekend series from UC Irvine.

 

Honorable Mention

 

Grand Canyon posted a 4-0 week, winning a midweek game against UNLV before sweeping a three-game series at Cal Poly.

Georgia welcomed No. 17 Florida State, which was ranked as high as No. 11 in one poll, and captured a home series win over the Seminoles.

Southern Cal had a 5-0 week, knocking off Cal State Fullerton and Kentucky before sweeping three games from Oakland.

Ball State went 4-0, picking up a pair of wins against both High Point and Elon at a neutral site.

Florida won at USF before taking two of three vs. No. 10 Miami.

Bradley traveled to McNeese State and swept three games and didn’t allow a run.

Coastal Carolina went 4-1, splitting games with Canisius before beating Georgia Tech, Albany and NC State in its tourney.

Wofford had a 4-0 week, winning at Presbyterian before going 3-0 in its tourney (Pitt, Miami of Ohio, UNC Asheville).

Tulane won at Southeastern Louisiana, then swept three close games at home against San Francisco.

San Diego State went 4-1, with a win over Loyola Marymount and three wins in four tries in a home-and-home series with UC Riverside.
