On Thursday, March 12, the NCAA announced that it was canceling all winter and spring championships.

After the NBA suspended all games on Wednesday evening, many predicted the NCAA would cancel March Madness. Dominoes fell early on Thursday as one by one, leagues cancelled their conference basketball tournaments. Late in the afternoon, the NCAA pulled the plug on its winter championships. But, surprisingly, it also cancelled all its spring championships.

No Selection Monday on Memorial Day. No Regionals. No Super Regionals. And it’s tough to type, but no College World Series.

Many juniors and seniors will head to pro baseball without traveling on the Road to Omaha.

The Ivy League has cancelled all is spring sports. Most other conferences have suspended play, with the possibility of league play and conference tournaments still there.

It’s still hard to imagine where things will be in two, three, four weeks. Hopefully the spread of the coronavirus will slow to a crawl. And things will return to normal.
