Demie Mainieri, a member of the College Baseball Hall of Fame and father of LSU head coach Paul Mainieri, passed away on March 13 at the age of 90.

Demie Mainieri was the first junior college coach to win 1,000 games. He recorded 1,012 victories in 30 seasons at Miami-Dade North Community College. More than 100 of his players were drafted or signed into professional baseball and 30 reached the Major Leagues.

His 1964 team won the NJCAA national championship. He had three other teams finish second and one placed third. Demie Manieri was inducted into seven halls of fame and was named to the NJCAA All-Century Team.
