Bowling Green has decided to eliminate its baseball program effectively as part of a plan to reduce the athletic department’s operating budget by $2 million.
AD Bob Moosbrugger said the school would honor their scholarship agreements through graduation. He said the school would assist players looking to play elsewhere.
BGSU will have 17 sports, six for men and 11 for women. The move affects 34 student-athletes and three coaches.
Danny Schmitz has been head coach of the Falcons for the past 30 years. BGSU was 2-11 on the short season in 2020 after going 16-33 overall and 8-18 in the MAC in 2019.
The Atlantic 10 said that baseball will be one of seven sports to regionalize and reduce its conference schedule by 25%. The tournament will be condensed to four teams.
