Augie Garrido, college baseball’s all-time leader in victories, died on Thursday at the age of 79 after being hospitalized recently following a stroke.

Garrido amassed 1,975 wins at San Francisco State, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Illinois and Texas. He became a head coach in 1969 and reached the College World Series 15 times. Garrido won national championships at Cal State Fullerton in 1979, 1984 and 1985, and claimed national titles at Texas in 2002 and 2005.
