Kumar Rocker worked 7.2 scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts as Vandy edged ECU in the first of the best-of-three set. Rocker (13-3) allowed three hits and three walks. Nick Maldonado got the final out of the eighth and Luke Murphy had a 1-2-3 ninth for his eighth save. The Commodores (44-15) got on the scoreboard in the second as Parker Noland had a one-out single, moved to third on a double by CJ Rodriguez (2 for 3) and came home on a groundout by Javier Vaz (2 for 3) to give the home team a 1-0 advantage. Vandy added an insurance run in the eighth as Enrique Bradfield Jr. had a leadoff single, went to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a sac bunt by Carter Young and scored on a fielder’s choice by Dominic Keegan. Bradfield was originally called out, but the call was overturned by replay. Gavin Williams (10-1, 7.1 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 BB) matched his career high with 13 strikeouts and suffered his first loss of the season. Connor Norby went 1 for 3 with a walk for the Pirates (44-16).

Tony Bullard had a triple and two homers as UA rallied past Ole Miss. His second homer in the fourth knotted the game at 3-3. Donta Williams (3 for 4, 2B, 4 RBI) and Jacob Berry (1 for 4, 2 RBI) also went deep for the Wildcats (44-15). Riley Cooper (3-0, 2.1 IP, BB) earned the win in relief. TJ McCants (2 for 4) had a two-run single to cap a three-run first for the Rebels (44-21).

No. 1 Arkansas 21, NC State 2 (box score)

Robert Moore homered twice and knocked in five as Arkansas clobbered NCSU, setting a program record for most runs in an NCAA tourney game. Moore had four hits and five runs. Charlie Welch (3 for 4, 4 R, 4 RBI) also went deep, and Cullen Smith (2 for 6, 2 R) had a grand slam in the fourth for the Razorbacks (50-11). Patrick Wicklander (7-1) allowed one run over six innings with six hits, two walks and six strikeouts in recording the victory. Austin Murr had two hits, including a triple, and one RBI, while Jose Torres homered in the second for the Wolfpack (33-18).

Brendan Beck pitched into the eighth inning with 13 strikeouts as Stanford took Game 1 at TTU. Beck (9-1) allowed six hits in 7.1 innings with two runs and one walk. The Cardinal (37-15) scored four in the first and added two in the sixth, five in the seventh and three in the eighth. Christian Robinson went 2 for 4 with a double, two runs and four RBI, while Nick Brueser was 3 for 5 with a homer, two runs and three RBI for the victors. Cole Stilwell (2 for 4, 2 RBI) and Nate Rombach (2 for 4) both went deep for the Red Raiders (39-16).
