Pettway (3-0) worked 6.0 innings with three hits and one earned run with no walks and four strikeouts. Powell pitched the final 1.1 innings with one hit, two walks and three punchouts. The Bruins (12-1) were held to two hits. JT Schwartz had an RBI double in the third. Garrett Mitchell added a sac fly in the fourth, with another run coming home on an error. Parker Noland had a two-run double in the fifth for the Commodores (11-4).

In Charlottesville, Va., Jimmy Sullivan homered, scored twice and drove in two as Virginia handed NC State its first loss. The Cavaliers (1-0, 11-3) won despite 11 walks as seven hitters in the lineup got a hit and six different players scored. Tyler McDonough hit a solo homer for the Wolfpack (0-1, 12-1).

In Gainesville, Fla., Kendrick Calilao went 3 for 4 with a homer, two runs and three RBI, and Nathan Hickey went 3 for 3 with a run and two RBI as Florida scored six times in the first inning and coasted to a win over USF. Tommy Mace turned in seven scoreless innings with two hits and six strikeouts for the Gators (14-0). Dillon Besnier hit a solo homer for the Bulls (5-8).

In Lubbock, Texas, Clayton Beeter tossed six innings with one unearned run and 12 strikeouts as Texas Tech topped Rice. Nate Rombach drove in two and Jace Jung added a pair of RBI as the Red Raiders (14-1) broke from a 3-1 game with four late runs. Cole Stilwell contributed two hits, two runs and an RBI for Tech. Trei Cruz and Bradley Gneiting each had two hits for the Owls (2-11).

In Athens, Ga., Emerson Hancock struck out 12 and allowed three hits in 7.1 scoreless innings, and Mason Meadows had a two-run single as part of a five-run eighth inning as Georgia beat Massachusetts. The game was scoreless as Sean Harney (7 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 7 K) limited the Bulldogs (12-2) until Ben Anderson (2 for 5) scored on an error to get the big inning going. UMass fell to 1-6.

No. 6 Louisville 4, Wake Forest 1 (box score)

In Winston-Salem, N.C., Reid Detmers worked six scoreless innings with four hits and 15 strikeouts as Louisville won its ACC opener against Wake Forest. The Cardinals (1-0, 10-3) scored three times in the second, with Justin Lavey singling in a run, Jared Poland doubling in a run and another scoring on an error. Bobby Seymour had two of the five hits for the Demon Deacons (0-1, 8-6).

No. 7 Miami 5, Pittsburgh 4 (box score)

In Coral Gables, Fla., Alex Toral capped a huge night with a walkoff homer in the bottom of the 11th inning as Miami edged Pittsburgh to open ACC play. Toral went 3 for 5 with two homers and four RBI, and Anthony Villar went 3 for 5 with a solo homer for the Hurricanes (1-0, 9-4). Kyle Hess went 3 for 4 with two runs, and Riley Wash added two RBI for the Panthers (0-1, 10-3).

In Fullerton, Calif., Drew Swift had two hits and four RBI, and Spencer Torkelson went 2 for 3 with a homer, three runs and two RBI as Arizona State coasted past Cal State Fullerton.
