In South Orange, N.J., Shane McCarthy hurled the first perfect game in program history as Seton Hall blanked LIUB. McCarthy (5-3) struck out eight and needed just 88 pitches to complete the gem against the Blackbirds (9-20). McCarthy had seven flyouts and 12 groundouts. Catcher Mike Alescio wet 2 for 3 with two RBI. The Pirates (24-11) used a six-run fourth to snap a scoreless tie. Rob Dadona and Derek Jenkins both had two-run singles in the fourth.

In Starkville, Miss., Nick Banks doubled twice, homered and drove in four as Texas A&M used a six-run ninth to blow open a close game in the SEC series opener at MSU. Hunter Melton (3 for 5, HR, 2 R) and Boomer White (2 for 4) both drove in two for the Aggies (8-5, 27-7). Brigham Hill (5-0, 6.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 8 K) recorded the victory. Jake Mangum went 3 for 5 with one run for the Bulldogs (8-5, 24-10-1).

In Nashville, Tenn., Jordan Sheffield tossed a five-hit shutout with a career-high 14 strikeouts as Vanderbilt won the SEC series opener against Kentucky. Sheffield (5-2) walked a pair and faced five over the limit. Jeren Kendall (2 for 4, 2 RBI) had a run-scoring triple in the third, while he and Connor Kaiser (2 for 2) both drove in runs in the seventh for the Commodores (8-5, 27-7). Evan White had two doubles for the Wildcats (8-5, 22-11).

In Durham, N.C., Johnny Ruiz went 2 for 2 with four walks and four RBI as Miami coasted past Duke in the ACC. Willie Abreu went 3 for 5 with two doubles and two RBI for the Hurricanes (12-2, 28-4), who finished with 12 hits and 11 walks. Thomas Woodrey was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst, allowing six hits and one earned run in six innings. Michael Smiciklas had a two-run single for the Blue Devils (6-10, 19-16).

In Fayetteville, Ark., JJ Schwarz went 2 for 3 with three RBI as Florida clinched an SEC series win at Arkansas. Mike Rivera (2 for 5) had a two-run single to highlight a five-run fifth for the Gators (10-4, 32-5). Jonathan India and Deacon Liput both had two hits and two runs for UF. Logan Shore (7-0, 6.2 IP, 7 H, R, 4 K) earned the win. Luke Bonfield and Jake Arledge both had two hits, while Michael Bernal went deep for the Razorbacks (4-10, 21-14).

Wake Forest 9, No. 5 Florida State 0

In Winston-Salem, N.C., Parker Dunshee and Donnie Sellers combined on a three-hit shutout as Wake Forest blanked Florida State to begin their ACC series. Dunshee (5-3) allowed two hits and three walks in seven innings with four strikeouts in picking up the win. Sellers worked around a hit and a walk over the final two innings to preserve the shutout. The Demon Deacons (6-10, 21-16) scored in four of their final five at-bats, including three in the sixth and four in the eighth. Ben Breazeale (2 for 4, 2B, 2 R, 4 RBI and Jonathan Pryor (2 for 3, 2 BB, 2 R, 2 RBI) both homered for WFU. Donovan Petrey went 1 for 2 with a double and a walk for the Seminoles (9-3, 22-10).

In Athens, Ga., Clarke Schmidt tossed a complete game with 10 strikeouts as South Carolina topped Georgia in the SEC. Schmidt (8-1) allowed five hits and one earned run, including only one hit after the fourth inning and 13 ground-ball outs. Alex Destino and Chris Cullen each drove in runs for the Gamecocks (11-2, 29-6). Daniel Nichols had a homer, and Heath Holder allowed two hits and struck out six in 5.2 scoreless innings of relief for the Bulldogs (4-9, 18-17).

In Louisville, Ky., Brendan McKay gave up two hits in 7.0 innings and went 3 for 5 at the plate with two RBI as Louisville clobbered Clemson in the ACC series lid-lifter. Blake Tiberi (3 for 5, 2B, HR) drove in four, while Devin Hairston had three hits, three runs and two RBI for the Cardinals (11-5, 27-7). Weston Wilson had one hit and one run for the Tigers (8-8, 24-10).

In Forth Worth, Texas, Evan Skoug went 4 for 4 with five RBI as TCU topped OU to start their Big 12 series. Skoug was a triple short of the cycle, while Austen Wade went 3 for 4 with four runs for the Horned Frogs (7-3, 25-8), who used a six-run fourth to take control. Luken Baker (3-1, 6 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K) picked up the win, while Sean Wymer (3 IP, H, BB, 2 K) recorded his first save. Steele Walker (1 for 3, BB, RBI) scored twice for the Sooners (4-6, 18-16-1).

In Pullman, Wash., Mason Cerrillo smacked a grand slam in the seventh as Washington State evened its Pac-12 series with Oregon State. Ian Hamilton (5-1, 6 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 4 K) picked up the win. KJ Harrison had a three-run homer in the seventh for the Beavers (6-5, 23-8).

In Tuscaloosa, Ala., Brady Bramlett and two relievers combined on a four-hit shutout as Ole Miss took the SEC series opener at Alabama. Bramlett (6-2) allowed three hits and three walks in six innings with six strikeouts to register the win. Will Stokes tossed a scoreless seventh with one hit before Wyatt Short fanned three of the final six batters for his sixth save. The Rebels (7-6, 26-8) scored once in the third before adding three in the ninth. Tate Blackman doubled and scored twice for Ole Miss. Chandler Avant had two of the four hits for the Crimson Tide (6-7, 20-14).

In Columbia, Mo., Bryce Jordan homered and drove in three as LSU took the SEC series opener at Missouri. The visiting Tigers (7-6, 23-11) used a five-run fifth to take control. Jared Poche’ (5-3, 6 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 5 K) earned the victory, while Hunter Newman (3 IP, H, 2 K) recorded his second save. Zach Lavy went 3 for 3, was a homer short of the cycle, and drove in two, while Kirby McGuire homered for the home Tigers (4-9, 20-16).

Virginia 7, No. 13 North Carolina 4

In Charlottesville, Va., Nate Eikhoff had a three-run triple, and Connor Jones allowed three runs (one earned run) over six innings as Virginia upended North Carolina. Jones improved to 7-1 despite five hits and five walks, and Tommy Doyle got the last out to post his first save for the Cavaliers (8-8, 22-14). The Wolfpack (9-5, 25-9) erased a 2-0 deficit with three in the fifth and put the game away with four in the ninth. Cory Wilder (2–1, 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 5 K) picked up the win. Wade Bailey had two hits and one RBI for the Yellow Jackets (7-8, 23-10).

In Phoenix, Ariz., Tyler Williams had three extra-base hits as ASU edged Cal in Game 1 of their Pac-12 set. Williams doubled twice and had a triple with one run and one RBI. The Sun Devils (5-8, 19-12) erased a 1-0 lead with two in the second and four in the third. Ryan Lillard drove in two, while David Greer homered for ASU. Seth Martinez (5-3, 7 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) earned the victory, while Eder Erives fanned two over the final 1.1 innings to record his fourth save. Robbie Tenerowicz had two hits and two RBI, while Nick Halamandaris homered and scored twice for the Golden Bears (8-5, 20-10).

In Lubbock, Texas, Davis Martin and Hayden Howard combined to hold San Diego State to one run as Texas Tech took the series opener. Martin (5-0) allowed nine hits and a run in six innings with no walks and one strikeout, while Howard retired the final nine hitters over the final three frames with four punchouts to record his fifth save. Alan Trejo (2 for 3) had an RBI single in the top of the fifth as the Aztecs (10-21) took a 1-0 lead. Stephen Smith (2 for 4) delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth as the Red Raiders (27-9) took the lead for good. Michael Davis (1 for 2) added a run-scoring base hit in the sixth for Texas Tech.

In Santa Barbara, Calif., Shane Bieber tossed his second straight complete game with four hits and seven strikeouts as UCSB nipped CSUN in the Big West series opener. Bieber walked one in raising his record to 7-1. The Gauchos (3-1, 22-7-1) scored the game’s lone run in the first. Andrew Calica and Devon Gradford both had two hits for UCSB. Fred Smith and Branden Berry both doubled for Matadors (1-6, 22-11).

No. 19 FAU 6, Marshall 3 (11)

In Beckley, W.Va., CJ Chatham had a pair of hits and scored the go-ahead run in the 11th on an error, and Robbie Coursel tossed 3.2 scoreless innings of relief with six strikeouts as FAU topped Marshall in Conference USA. The Owls (10-3, 24-7) trailed 3-1 late before Sean Labsan and Tyler Frank (2 RBI) drove in runs in the seventh to tie the game. Austin Langham, who had a big double in the inning, went 3 for 5 with a run for FAU. Aaron Bossi had two RBI, and Sam Finfer went 3 for 5 for the Herd (7-6, 17-14).

Appalachian State 4, No. 20 South Alabama 3

In Boone, N.C., Beau Myers drew a bases-loaded walk to cap a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth as ASU edged USA to begin their Sun Belt series. Matt Vernon had a two-run single to tie the game in the ninth for the Mountaineers (4-12, 9-25). Reed Howell (3-1) fanned two over two hitless innings to record the victory. Danny Martinez had a two-run homer in the seventh for the Jaguars (15-1, 26-9).

Utah 4, UC Riverside 0

In Salt Lake City, Jayson Rose allowed one hit in eight scoreless innings as Utah blanked UC Riverside to start their three-game series. Rose (5-3) walked four and struck out eight. Cody Scaggari (2 for 3, 2 R, 2 RBI) had a double and a homer for the Utes (12-18). Vince Fernandez had the lone hit for the Highlanders (13-18).
